I've been considering a design for an amp that is so over the top that it might be completely useless. My idea is inspired by the Mesa Mark Coliseum 300. The coliseum 300 used six 6L6 output tubes and was rated at roughly 180watts.

I was thinking of doing a similar design but using 807s instead of 6L6s. The 807s have similar specs to the 6L6 but they're transmitting tubes that can take 600 V on the plates. I think I could get 250 - 300 watts.

For the cabinet I would use two 15" speakers mounted back to back.

I'm thinking the total weight would be around 150lbs. It'll definitely have casters.

To be honest I'd never actually build such a monstrosity but if it keeps tickling my brain I might at least come up with a schematic...then a layout...then a parts list....

wiki - Leslie speaker.
If I could make a cabinet, but if Suzuki, owner of the Leslie brand, still makes them that would be easier.
Your cabinet idea is cool still.

Hi mhowell: wow, amp and matching forklift truck - I like it! 8)

You didn't actually mention the forklift truck bit yet, but I know it's coming.

Good luck with that circuitry.

Cheers - C

Take a look at the Fender Studio Bass amp, a massive combo: (6) 6L6's, (3) 12AX7, 12AU7, 12AU7, 15" speaker, 200 WATTS,
and a whopping 101 lbs....it's a b*tch to move even with the casters.

My Dual Showman Reverb head with 2 6L6 at 100 watts is 70lbs by itself and the 2X15 cab that went with it was 110lbs. You do the math. The beast you want to make I'm sure would weigh in close to this.

Maybe I'll build it as a head only. I'll arrange the tubes in a circle and call it Stonehenge.

Wonder how that'll affect parasitics?

Here's an 807. I love the top caps but it's definitely not for consumer electronics.

I've been told they sound pretty good.

Looks like somebody beat me to the punch - at least as far as the amp it concerned. My vision was not nearly as complicated.

How about 1000watts?

That amp uses 4 813 transmitting tubes. See the comparison to KT88s. The KT88, on the left, is considered a 6L6 on steroids but it's a mini compared to the 813.

2500V on the plates!

Yikes! I never heard of the T1610 before. I did a search and it is amazing. One place is selling them for $2499. Another site says they were designed specifically for audio.

Thanks for sharing this.
