SO after a nice little cash boost the other week, I thought, 'lets get some new gear....' as we all do.

I've been checking out portastudios for a while now just to record live sessions at our rehearsals and after much dithering I settled on the Zoom R16. 8 tracks at once can be recorded, SD card and various 'cool' thing-a-me-jigs included for less than £250!

I was never a Zoom fan when I was younger but decided to take the chance as it was the only one in my price range that could take 8 inputs at once.

With the money I had left from not spending as much as I thought I would I decided to get a condenser mic and settle for the sEX 1  and am mightily impressed with that two........the sound my acoustic gets through it is very nice!

Having STILL not spent my 'allocated budget' I thought.....what else??

I have actually been after a bouzouki for years now but to get a 'decent' one, apparently I would have to spend hundreds!!!! The folk forums and mandolin sites say to never go for a cheap one, always spend a good bit. I decided, 'sod it,' went on flea-bay and bought a cheap Romanian electro-zouk and waited nervously to see if it really is trash.........I love the bloody thing! It just makes me smile playing it!
I have heard I should consider replacing the nut, tuners and tail end so if anyone on here has experience of these things and can offer advice then please fire away

Unfortunately, e-bay and myself is a badcombination........ I just love the 'ending shortly' button........oops  :? . scrolled down what was ending in the amp section...........with an hour left was a Collins BagAmp. New, boxed and free delivery at a RIDICULOUS price. I had heard of them and have been looking at LDs, Bose L1s and Freshman Solos for a bit so did some reading.................and thought..........even if it isn't great......at this price................'buy it now'...............damn that function! It hasn't arrived yet but am quite excited about checking it out with the new acoustic band.

FInally........ as I was about to 'leave' e-bay for a good while I noticed at the bottom one of the items being watched by lots of people and this kind of brings it in line with the Fender forum. A 2001 Squier Fat Tele............mmmmmm I though. I don't have a Squier tele, it's quite nice, the guy had described is a a standard so the price was pretty low.......bugger it.......'BUY IT NOW'

SO all in all a very................productive?/costly?/satisfactory little spree!  8)

I am really curious about this BagAmp as the guy has loads new....must be from the old Collins stock and has offered me, if I like them another couple for crazy prices........and I'm talking three BagAmps for less than the price I paid for the Zoom................even f the bass is thin, I can throw a decent sub on that and it might come near to the Bose or LD for less than a third of the price!!!!

happypappawookee!!! 8)

How do you manage that Wook? To buy such quantity in one hit and not get garroted by the missus?
I have to dribble my purchases in over a period of time or she goes mental. If I buy a pedal and a pack of strings she frowns.

Impressed by your audacity.
Tell me that she's going to be at home to sign for delivery whilst you're out on those days.

Once we have figured the thing out.......all flashing lights and shiny switches to me at the moment.........I will post up some tunes.

Any thoughts on the BagAmp from anyone.......other forums have had quite a history of, how shall I say it, 'emotive' threads regarding the BagAmp......

To be honest guys, I ordered a Tele - my wife doesn't know. It's going to be delivered around my birthday (middle of June) ...

One day, there's going to be a Fiesta red tele in our "unused" room.

@ pappawookee: thumbs up!

Cheers

David

As far as the guitar goes.........I can probably blag it..........'It was really cheap/it will fit nicely in the rack without taking up more space/look it's red/come on woman it's a Tele with a humbucker!!!(don't think that one will work)' but when the BagAmp arrives.........that ain't going to be too hard to conceal............oops :?

Lady Armadillo has not yet been introduced to the new Nighthawk. I have not hidden it--it's sitting in plain sight in the Lair of the Screamin' Armadillo, right there in the guitar stand. I know some time in the next week or so she'll go in there to hang up a shirt or get a CD and there will be a disturbance in the Force greater than when they blew up Alderaan..."YOU BOUGHT ANOTHER GUITAR?!?"

I think that I could bring a new guitar into the house without the little woman noticing as she still doesn't recognize them all but unfortunately she watches the bank statements like a hawk.

Always amused by the wife-gear confliction threads  I guess it all comes to knowing the missus' limit, and then always stretching just a *bit* more.

Enjoy the nice new gear, pappawookee!

I never buy any musical instruments or accessories out of the bank account. The money comes from "The Stash"...unfortunately, unless I buy it in person or I can trust the source and send a money order, Lady Armadillo will see the purchase before I even receive the item.

On the purchase of my Dean Chrome G resonator, she knew I "won" the eBay auction before I did...my dang iPhone dinged when I received email confirmation that I was the final highest bidder. She did not initially believe me when I told her that, "I didn't expect to win--I low-balled the guy on the price!" (which was true, I expected it to go much higher). She vaguely believed me, because I'm terrible at lying (never got the hang of being believable when uttering untruths) and the story has stayed the same for 9 months now (because it's true and I'm too stupid to remember a lie...I always remember the truth).

I can't even gripe that she goes and makes purchases without my approval...she always calls me for any item over $50.00...I never asked her to do that, and I always say yes, and When I ask her why she's even asking me (she knows if we can afford whatever she wants to buy), she says she'd rather be sure before the fact...which makes me look even worse if I try to sneak something past her. :?

...so I generally don't even try, unless it's such a good deal I can't resist.

After having the vapours at the BagAmp and Squier both being delivered within half an hour of each other, whilst I was out  , and bollocking me when I got home......guess what........she was won over by the colour of the guitar!!!!!

I was a bit cheeky and said, 'But it's a red one', (her usual argument for liking certain cars) and she looked and said, 'Oooooh it's sparkly!' and she was right!!! It's that glittery red....I don't know what the colour's called but it sparkles..............

SHe likes the colour so much she has even suggested getting it up on yhe wal...........who knew. :?

(note to self..........in future GAS attacks....pick 'pretty' colours............  )

Now let's see if I can find a still-painted bowling ball Strat to match my stripped one.......
