Yeah, I don't think there actually is an official Hendrix Strat due to various legal battles going on within and with the Hendrix family and the Hendrix estate.

Nope, there isn't. There are a few models that are based on Jimi's guitars though.

I assume you are referring to the one evh1978 is talking about. I have one of those puppies.

Quite right Fender's not allowed to refer to Hendrix in the name any more due to legal issues, and the according to a chap I was having a discussion with elsewhere on this forum, the overall workmanship is not as good as the Voodoo Strat, if you can pick one of those up on eBay.

But, hey, for my money, this is a great guitar, with its own unique tone, thanks to the reverse slanted bridge pickup and reversed string length (it's really quite debatable how much the latter affects tone, I think, but others seem to think it makes a mentionable difference). For around the price of a Mexican Standard you're getting so much more (we love affordability :) ).

Seriously, I was completely opposed to the idea of a reverse headstock because I figured, who needs the extra hassle of tuning that thing. But the tone and the workmanship are of such a high quality compared to the bog standard Mexicans that I was compelled to get it. Nice. Velvety tone. And tuning it's not such a pain really. I do still find myself tuning the wrong string every now and then like a fool, though.

Probably worthwhile mentioning that the neck is quite chunky compared to more modern ones, but it did not take long to get used to, but then again that may be because my acoustic's got an equally chunky neck. And it's a lovely silky maple. I really like the fret size as well. Alder body, i believe.

Having said all this, bare in mind that my little shopping spree was on a tight budget, and fuelled by 3 years of jonesin' for a strat since my last one bit the dust back in 2004, a casualty of many a spill. My opinion, though, is that if you are on a budget, this is really good value. This guitar is a giver, and I am super stoked with what I have been getting from it so far.

One final word of warning is that it appears the white ones have a 1-ply pickguard which several players are not impressed with. Which is really wierd, 'cause the balck one comes with good ol' 3-ply. So if you're keen on getting one, make sure it's black. And let's face it, black is just sexier any way
