I work in the IC design industry and we use software throughout the design process. You can look at "Electronic Design Automation" in wikipedia to get an idea of the tools that are used.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic ... automation

I would like to see an application/s that did something similar for guitar amplifier design. Yes, there are schematic capture tools, simulators, and some pcb stuff out there and that's a good start.

What I'd like to see is something that could go through the entire design flow. You could start off with a schematic, generate a netlist for simulation, then the hard part. Convert that netlist to a "physical design". By "physical design" I mean a software model - like a Blender model.

http://www.blender.org/

If anyone is interested I can go into more detail.

Any programmers out there?

Cheers,

Would it be similar to Revalver and the way you can experiment with different tubes and values to build custom designs.

Wasn't familiar with Revalver. Had to google it. :D Revalver looks more like an automated DSP thing.

What I have in mind is a way to come up with a circuit. My electronics is weak so for me it would be a fairly simple tube circuit. The circuit would be designed in a traditional schematic capture tool. The schematic would then be netlisted and simulated. That's all part of the normal circuit design flow.

What I would then like to be able to do is map/translate the netlist to python code. The python code would utilize the Blender API to call up physical models of the various circuit elements, including the wire, and put them together in a complete amp model. In the 3d modelling world you could also specify speakers, cabinets, etc..

Here is a Marshall amp rendered in Blender. This one of course was not made with the type of design automation that I am referring to. But this is a sample of what I'd like to be able to get to.

Cheers,
