I just put some new videos up on youtube today. I'm trying for a scholarship this year that requires a video entry. The overall winner gets a full ride scholarship to Berkeley (which would be completely mind-blowingly awesome), but there are about 30 other scholarships available too.

I'm pretty much youtube illiterate, so they were filmed and put together by a friend. I just used his Eleven Rack instead of my amp and pedals because if we had used them we would have had to turn the air conditioner off. That's my Highway One in the background, my #2 now.

Memphis:

I used an Ibanez AW300 for this one. I know, not a Fender, but it's all I've got and it's a pretty sweet guitar. They sound way better than the price suggests. :)

And here are a few pictures from a recent gig. It was a crawfish festival held under an overpass in Kemah, and luckily it didn't rain until we were finished.

Becks, you so far out-pace so many people twice your age (including me) it's amazing!

I hope you're putting out a disc (EP or LP, either one) with these songs soon...I would buy three of them and give them to my friends. Everybody who I played the original version you posted was amazed...nobody guessed you were a teenager, and everyone was massively impressed.

The videos look great, and I hope the people awarding the scholarship have a brain in their heads; you should definitely be in the running.

...and by the way, you did awesome in assembling your Forum-Caster...that is one sweet machine.

BTW, whatever happened to your beautiful purple Squier? Surely you're not gonna get rid of it, are you? It looked and sounded really sweet as well...

No, that one is probably the last one I'd get rid of if it came down to it. I had Hubert Sumlin sign it for me, it's been everywhere I've been, and it was my first guitar. It's taking a break right now though, because it doesn't play like it used to now that's it's had to have four or five fret levels in it's life. It was the only guitar I played for a while. I plan to refret it eventually, and my guitar tech has even offered to let me use a couple of trashed cheapo acoustic guitars to practice on. After I feel comfortable with it (I already feel fairly comfortable leveling frets compared to this time last year), then it's just a matter of time before I get it back up and running like it used to. :)

And camera-genic as well! Good Lord, how much more can one individual have going for them?

At the end of Houston your face kinda says; "Yeah. OK!" I couldn't put it better! :D

Bear in mind, at your age Clapton had only just begun learning the guitar. He'd have killed for some of your chops at that point. Some of us would kill for them now!

Try and remember us when you're up playing the big stages, TGS. You won't, but try...

Way to go, truly - C

That's just incredible pieces Rebecca,Houston put me in mind of something that Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown would write and that's great company to be compared to. Memphis had a real Atlanta Rhythm Section vibe to it.Both are just great songs and your fretting hand technique and use of vibrato is flawless.Meridian is simply cool and so laid back and I was very impressed with your right hand finger picking-after over 45 years at it I still can't get the hang of it.I tip my hat to you,you have proven yourself a gifted guitarist and top notch song writer.Keep up the exceptional work and keep us up to date on any other endeavours that develop.

Hi TGS!

Man, that's some awesome playing! You get my vote for the first Forumite to get a Fender endorsement. Its just a matter of time. 8)

There's a lot that goes into making a decent youtube clip that sounds good too. So 50 points to you and your crew for getting all that spot on!

What did you think of the Eleven rack (I want one!)?

Cheers!

Andy

I'd like to get another couple of songs together, but when I do I'll try to get something up on iTunes or print up a few CDs. And of course, I'll let you guys know when that happens. :) My friend who engineered the session has one more semester of school left, so I'm going to try to get as much recorded between now and then as possible. How often do you get free, no strings attached studio time at a place with state of the art equipment?

I was really impressed by it, and I'm a tube amp/analog effects purist. It didn't take very long to dial in the tone. Normally I could sit there and tweak it for hours, but as a guest I didn't want to do that and the second or third preset had all of what I needed. I just took the rotary effect off and turned the bass and mids up a bit. It seemed super easy to operate, and it's really nice having everything right there and ready to go. It kicks the snot out of my Line 6 Toneport (which I use just for quick practicing now), and you can hardly tell it's not an amp. I also love the fact that you can download new patches all the time, so you're not just stuck with what it comes with if something new comes out.

Well done, "big" girl. Was it yesterday that you had a big hat hiding your face from whomever? Be sure to present your contacts and experience when talking to the suits. All the legends you know and have jammed with. You ought to be a cinch. Best of luck. G :D
