Hey there fellas, I amp putting together a Fender reissue stand alone unit; I scored all the parts of flea bay minus the tubes, chassis, and cab. Well, I am about to start slapping her all together and need some advice from the amp heads out here. The tube compliment is 6K6, 12AX7, 12AT7....and my question is this: I have some tubes lying around that should fit, 6L6, (2) 12AX7s; would these work in the unit? Would this throw anything out of whack?

Not a electrinics guy, but I did come across this awhile back. Don't know if it helps. http://www.rocknrollvintage.com/amp-tube-charts.htm

hey, thanks for the link, but I'm trying to gain some insight as to how the unit would react to the tubes I have on hand. That, and I may be a tad out of budget to purchase a new set.

The tubes you mention are 'pin' compatible but that doesn't necessarily mean they will work.

I am quoting from vague memory so I could be wrong. However, I believe the 6L6 has higher current requirements on the heaters and could damage your power transformer if used. The 12AT7 probably wouldn't hurt anything (NOT 100% SURE!!) but it has a lower gain spec than the 12AX7 so you would end up with a weaker reverb signal.

I strongly suggest you follow the design schematic with no modifications.

No,don't use the 6L6,...if you can't find a 6K6GT,buy a decent 6V6....you could get by with the 12AX7 for awhile instead of the 12AT7,but they're not that expensive either.
If you really want to know what might go wrong, post this in the vintage amp section,I won't go into detail here, but some of the guys can tell you in short order the problems you will face.

My comments on the 12AT7 vs the 12AX7 were bass ackwards. I thought you were replacing a 12AX7 with a 12AT7.
