Although I'm somewhat of a head banger, I love good country.

Travis Tritt. Long haired Country Boy.

Hank Williams Jr. A country boy can survive.

I don't like the "New Country" about beer-drinkin',pick up truck drivin',good old boys who love chasin' beer swillin' ladies in skimpy tops and cut off jeans.

I prefer the old style country that's being kept alive by Marty Stuart and Steve Earle and I love Bluegrass too.Give me Johnny Cash,Ferlin Husky or Waylon Jennings any day but you can keep the new country types.

Agreed. This type of song needs to die. Try bands like Reckless Kelly, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen, Stoney LaRue for a more southern-rock style country. Country music out of Texas has a totally different feel than Nashville country, it's much better.

I don't like country music as it is today but there have been a lot of great players who came from that background, Lenny Breau started up very much from there and we all know what a monster he was. Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, these guys were all giants. Jerry Reed is another one. In fact i agree with guitslinger i do like the old country styles like the Carter family stuff like that, the real essence of country, but not what it's become today.

If you grew up in the Nashvegas area like I did,you would probably hate country music. ...it's the only thing you hear and see and hear people talking about.
There's tons of great music here to be found, and some great musicians, but country rules and the large part of Music City economy thrives on it and the fans,so it's promoted in every aspect.
Me?...I hate the country or mainstream stuff these days...I'll take Waylon or old Johnny Cash any day of the week.
and don't get me started on how every musician I know around here absolutely hates Kenny Chesney....

man, I can get down to some Dwight Yoakum, Buck Owens, George Straight, Garth Brooks, Junior Brown, Johnny Rivers, Willie, Waylan, and the boys! Dang, I can go on and on. This junk they call country nowadays is just terrible, just a bunch of sheety pop, I tell you what!

Yea I can't handle the new stuff. Im an old Hag fan, or give me that old Honky Tonk stuff.

My buddy Rick Sousley. We were in a band together back in the late 70s, early 80s.

None of you like "contemporary" country music (and I tend to agree) yet country music is probably more popular today than it's been in decades. :)

There's a radio station here in Phoenix, "The Ride, 94.1" that mixes a lot of old and new country and they occasionally throw in some blues stuff and Allman Brothers type stuff. I set my radio to that station and then pulled the knobs out so nobody could change it.

Tell you who i love though; Nanci Griffith. Her "Other Voices Other Rooms" is to me one of the most emotional records ever. But then that's what i mean about older stuff being best. Don't know if you'd classify that as country? but i do love it. 8)

-neither do I . For me it's like all the above examples are written and performed for the dollars and not for the heart.
Although there has been some country artists worth listening to , there is quite a few of them these days IMO.
But i guess it's a good thing we like different music - makes more musicians occupied , and makes the world more colorful :D

PS!- there are really some hot chicken'pickers out there :!:
