Lots of people dye ebony darker than it actually is. Rosewood too. Dunno if G&L or Jackson do, Gibson certainly do.

At least during the era being described here G&L did not and hence really the only way you can tell is by looking closely at the woodgrain. Ebony is much tighter-, finer-grained than rosewood.

True dat...the "tighter-, finer-grain" is why I knew my first Nighthawk had an ebony board, and why I suspected the new Nighthawk has it, too. It just "feels" different from rosewood as well.

I won't start the never-ending "does it affect tone" argument, I'll just say I like the way it feels and the way it looks.

Good eyes!

Yes, I put a couple of Q102 stickers (Rolling Stones Steel Wheels Tour, ZZ Top Recycler Tour) on that case (my first guitar) way back in the day...they were a cool station back then, Bo & Jim in the mornings, Redbeard every afternoon, Triple Shot Thursdays...

Hey, way to go. Coupla things here:

~ Nice pickin'. I love those ole roots blues. Ain't as easy as it looks.
~ Yep, my buddy Phil in UK bought this from Brad years back.
~ I had the sheer pleasure of some intimate moments with this awesome guitar as a result of Phil's visit earlier this year. You sure got a good 'un. And all that stuff going on with the finish just makes her look more beautiful.
~ I have a Skyhawk, which is her model's new, changed name. Man, this series was Leo at his finest as far as I'm concerned.
~ I can attest to the fact that she has an ebony board. Luv 'em.
~ I can find a spot for that radio if you get discouraged.

Good stuff, SA. A grand reunion, for sure.

Jay

Thank you, Jay, for all your kind words (especially about my pickin')...I agree with everything you said about Nighthawks and Skyhawks...great guitars indeed! for those in the know, it's definitely one of the most overlooked and under appreciated of Leo's creations. I've heard people label it as "just another Stratocaster copy," but it is so much more than that. It's a perfect storm of engineering, materials, experience and mojo, all with deceptive ebony attached.

Jay did me a few great favors in brokering the sale of this axe...he may or may not want everyone to know, but he's a heck of a guy and I'll be eternally grateful for him and his kindness (thank you!).

...but you're not getting my Philco!
