I've seen some real negative stuff about Texas Specials on Harmony Central that pushed me into the hassle of Fat50s. The Texas Specials are awesome. I've already played them a lot despite having a cold.

Initially, when I got the dead pickups in the Fat50s  I was very angry because I was really looking forward to the Fat50s, which are hard to get. Instead of dealing with ordering again, I took a page out of my body surfing hobby and rode the wave grabbing Texas Specials instead, since the Specials were in stock. Texas Specials are on some Custom Shop guitars, and artist models like the SRV and Knopfler the Dire Straits guy. 8)

Don't believe any criticism on Harmony Central from who knows who (Ibanez players or Gibson fans or whatver). These pickups are incredible. Anyone who's complaining probably has the guitar set up wrong. With the good setup from Wild West, the pickups are well away from the strings and so do not interfere with the strings. There's no stratitis at all. The pickups do not sound like SRV because I'm using 10s and play differently, but they are reminiscent of Knopfler when played fairly clean. They have a classic Strat tone. They are well-balanced compared to many Strat pickups, with treble, mid and bass all generating perfect crystal notes and chords when set at 7 on my Blues Junior. With Highway Ones, I was always rolling back the treble and the tone knobs to avoid a metallic aftertaste. There's some wicked stuff in these Texas Specials - with the gain up on the amp around 11 and the tone knobs on the guitar up at 10, some really bitchin' Hendrix vibe comes through the neck and neck-mid. Roll the tone knobs back to about 3 and get some tougher sounding growling tone. These pickups are excellent. :D
