is there somewhere people are downloading free backing tracks to play to ? im really trying to get back into playing, but playing to songs just isnt really cutting it, and finding band members is a nightmare. for now id be happy just to play along to something i can experiement with a bit. ideally looking for something bluesy, fast or slow.

couple of other quick questions :

ive got a 12 string acoustic, tuned as you would expect ee-aa-dd-gg-bb-ee. is there some other way i could easily tune it that wouldnt require me to learn all new chord patterns or not ?

slide guitar - ive onyl ever messed about with standard tuning, to pretty miserable effect. ive heard about tuning to open G which apparently makes it a lot easier to get sounds that dont give you a headache. is this true and how is each string tuned if so ?

thanks, im just really looking for ways to peak my interest again........

First one that showed up when i googled it. I Don't use backing tracks , others than I make by myself- so you just should look around in google -sure you find something you like.
The 12 -string you could tune down all the strings to avoid learning new chords  - but that might get you a slightly different sound! But I would not bother
I would tune my guitar in , as you mentioned , to open G for slide (have an old tele clone I have constantly tuned to open G- ready to rock :D )
I also would have tuned the 12 - string the same way , to get used to it. If you put a slide across all the strings, or use one finger across in a barré - you get an open major chord. Not too difficult !
But of course there are some chords it is practical to know. Experiment for yourself, or use google or youtube .
A lot easier tuning is drop D - just tune down the deep E-string(s) down to D !

Oh I almost forgot: This is the open G-tuning, from the bass-side:

Edit: D-G-D-G-B-D

Have fun !

There are also some good backing tracks on YouTube. You can make a playlist of your favs and have them play one after another for as long a session as you want.

G'day. My open G tuning is slightly different. D-G-D-G-B-D. I've done it this way for years.
It involves tuning down some strings. Basically the Es go down to D and the A goes down to G. The D-G-B remain the same. It works for me. I haven't tried the high string tuned up to G as previously mentioned.
Goodonya ...Mark.

Mats Nermark has a good site for them and keeps updating them:

Yeah cool. I was a bit worried about that string breaking
Spanish tuning is what we're doing. You can do it in A too.
