my tuppence is thus - the colour and the shape is classic. They clearly went for such a massively overdubbed, guitar heavy and precise way to record that album that to me it sounds like nothing else. I`ll always appreciate that. Cant understate Pat Smears jagged guitar sound and what it did for that album neither.

Apart from that, the first album is wonderful, but hardly songwriting genius! I`ll always love it though.

Everything since then has been patchy, moments of greatness, and lots of generic stuff where dave has obviously learnt how to churn out good sounding rock, but not much substance. I think he also ran out of lyrical content at least a few albums ago.

I hate to say it, but i also kinda know what moochy means about the live vocals. I dont dislike them, but its a world apart from what that guy can achieve in the studio. Nothing wrong with that, its the same for loads of singers, but i totally understand what he`s getting at.

I haven't listened to any of Wasting Light except for the singles, because in my head I can't come up with any way that it could possibly be as good as Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace.
