I think I'd rather have the guitars. It would kill me to listen to music and not be able to grab my guitar and play.

+1

I have enough music in my head to last me a lifetime. I'll make my own, if there's not any (external) music available.

I know several Yankee rednecks...it's not just a southern phenomenon...the southerners just hide it less.

I assume the "remote island" scenario is just so you have to decide between listening to music or playing music, that is, with no external input ...ever.
Presumably you'd be surrounded by loved ones and friends, creating a Utopian society.
Or are we talking about a Robinson Crusoe situation?
Either way, I'd still choose guitar, though it would be quite a miserable existence on your own. :(

I guess you could paint faces on some soccer balls and start a surf band (the Wilsons)

Neither. A large collection of beautiful women would surely serve me best. They can make the "music" while I play their "guitars".

As always, this is merely IMO where I truly hope your mileage does NOT vary. :D :D :D

+1 but a collection of men. who want to go with me? and don't forget your guitar
i take a lot of beer with.

cheers :D

After much pondering I have decided on keeping a guitar rather than my music collection, but that decision took a lot of serious thought to arrive at.

That's definitely a difficult choice for me. I love my guitar. But... I also love my The All-American Rejects CDs. I think I'd rather die than be without either.
