The recent passing of Levon Helm has me thinking about drummers who also do vocals. It's something I always love to see and hear. There's a certain quality which I can't put my finger on, when the drummer sings. Phil Collins, even Karen Carpenter had that certain something.
There are many more examples. I'll start by posting the best ever version of "Black Betty" by the great Australian band "Spiderbait"

I've jammed with guys who can sing or drum, but not both. I'm interested to see more examples and your thoughts.

I'd been a singing, bar room drummer for years. Now I'm a singing guitarist.

Ok. Grand Funk Railroad "We're an American Band"

The numerous songs that Don Henley sang in the Eagles.
Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane are among them.

And Myself. (excuse the quality, I'd been drinking)

Thanks RRR, well Iv'e got to admire you singin' drummer types. You kinda make the rest of the band look a little inadequate
And there's nothing wrong with the "Funky Music" performance.
You should drink often.

Ritchie's backing vocals, and that damn sexy, bluesy, solo.

6 degrees to Kevin Bacon? No, 6 degrees to The Ramones.

Hey Riley, Stonefield ? they're Aussie girls right ? Nice.
It's not always about the Ramones Buxter. I was thinking of drummers who can also front the band. If you include backing vocals, well that's just about every band.
For all the Ramones fans, here's a montage of Karen Carpenter, Beautiful voice and a better drummer than I first thought.

+1000

You read my mind, SBLS!

Peter Rivera fronted Rare Earth through several platinum albums and many of their hits remain in regular rotation on classic rock radio stations.

Gil Moore (Triumph) is still a hell of a great singer and an incredible drummer!

Allied Forces - - At the US Festival @ 1983

Follow Your Heart - - Someplace during the Thunder Seven tour @ 1985

BTW... I saw them in the spring of 1985 during their Thunder Seven tour in Buffalo, NY. They ROCKED!!! 8)

me, being a white boy who plays funky music, really enjoyed the video RRR.
the drummer from triumph is the first that came to mind. i think i remember a tune he sang called "when the lights go down".

Carmine Appice sings quite a bit from behind his kit.

I'm trying to think who my favorite singing drummer is, but I can't really pick one.
