New guitar player, acoustic/electric.....hmm....lets say Wish You Were Here. Fairly easy to play and everyone can easily recognize it even if you're butchering it at first.

Try "Time of your Life" by Green Day. That's an easy one.

Many a guitarist my age began by banging out Nirvana tunes. Dude, find a copy of 'About a Girl', by Nirvana. It's easy and chicks dig it. :D

Smells like Teen spirit and In Bloom are pretty easy too. Yout could always go with the essential Smoke on the Water.

Like Sulley said, Brain Stew. Must be the easiest song ever to play.

Glycerine by Bush is a good one to learn aswell
