We recently brought a LG 60" 3D plasma with a LG 3D blu-ray player. Both are 'smart' devices that connect to the internet, but the problem was, was that the units are in the basement and we only had a 100Mbs wireless 'G' router that's located two floors up.

The oblivious solution would have been playing a dual band 'N' router but I knew even than that a 'hard-wired' config would be better for streaming movies/YouTube.

After searching I read about the Trendnet 200Mbps Powerline AV adapter kit http://trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=115_TPL-303E2K&cat=65.

The 200Mbps Powerline AV Adapter Kit uses any electrical outlet to create a secure high speed building-wide network. Connect one adapter to your network and plug another adapter in to any outlet on your electrical system for instant high speed network access.

It only took me about 10mins to setup, that's because I had to go upstairs to connect the 'main' adapter to the router. But, you can't use a power strip, the adapter(s) have to be plugged into a wall circuit so that they can 'see' each other.

But, the adapters only have one 'out', and I have two devices. The solution was for this, is that I had a Netgear 4 input hub from when I had to use Microsoft's ICS config for connecting two computers back in the '90s.

After first making sure the connection worked on the HDTV, I connected the 'out' from the adapter to the 'link-in' on the hub and ran two NICs, one to the HDTV and one to the Blu-ray player. It worked great!

Both had new software updates, and the updates downloaded at 90Mbs!
