Why oh why can't you go back and un-see things? after that post, I really need to do that quite badly now..

Calm down. It's not like we've shown you the pictures of when Nick moved over to the pole. You've been spared the worst.

No Adey.
The singer is leery of playing unrehearsed. And in all honesty mate I can't blame him.

The other/old/wherever he is guitarist is an alcoholic that has played poorly on a constant basis. He's gone awol (again) so I got back in. Now Asterix (singer, his band) just wants us to be bang on. The gig on the 27th was only ever a maybe as a stand in band for The Nerks (great band) that have had to pull out of that one.
First UK gig is The Old Bell on June 30th.

The official statement is

Quote:
The band has had to reluctantly pull out of the Notts Punk Fest on May 6th due to a line up change. Guitarist? Jools Zsabody has been AWOL for a couple of months and the ‘vacant position’ has now been filled by Nick ‘The Brummie with the tummy’. Nick is busy learning the new songs whilst remaining vehemently opposed to the pie tax! But with only a couple of weeks to go before the date we feel the Fest is gonna be too soon for us. The bands next confirmed gig is June 30th at the Bell, Derby supporting 80’s punk legends, The Enemy! Should be a good un!

Though we've a few dates in Italy at the start of that month, if you want to help me kidnap Nutter and corrupt him into a life of depravity, alcohol abuse and tinitus. He's a bit big for me to tackle alone.

Like my editing skills? By way of explanation Here I am vehemently opposing the VAT that has been added to hot pies, pasties and kebabs. Whilst also showing off my best moronic, gormless, vapid, vacant gaze. Remember the anti poll tax Tshirts?
(good stage wear in the punk world. Just rip the arms off is and spill something down the front)

So a VAT on food?? Or just prepared food?

Now my advice for those who die, (Taxman!)
Declare the pennies on your eyes, (Taxman!)
‘Cause I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
(Taxman).

VAT on hot food, it's now a luxury.

Whoever could call a meat pie or a kebab a luxury must be mental. I'm partial to the things, though I think their garbage.

We have no VAT on food (mostly), on the principle that it is a necessecity of life and any government that taxed it would look like a bunch of meanies. However, there is VAT on food served in cafes and restaurants, on the basis you could live without those luxuries if you really tried.

In an effort to balance the books and keep our precious triple-A credit rating our government is currently falling over itself to find things to cut and things to tax, and in the (finance minister) Chancellor's recent budget he came up with the wheeze that if a pie is heated before you buy it then suddenly it joins the category of restaurant food, and so is taxable.

Nikininja, along with nearly all of us, doesn't like the sound of that. For the last couple of weeks we've been having a national debate about exactly how hot a pie has to be to attract tax. If the shop heats it for you but then you let it go cold again before paying for it, can you avoid the tax? How cold do you have to let it get? Is someone taking the pie's temperature?

Politicians have been looking pretty stupid over it all. So, nothing new.

Cheers - C

Remember the days of the microwave oven in the petrol station? They seem to have gone by the wayside in these days of all singing all dancing super petrol stations.
We may need a return.
Could we not buy the pie with a fill up and heat it up on the way out the door? Then all we've bought is a cold pie, exactly the same as if it were bought at Tescos.
Would that be good tax avoidance?

Ah...OK. Much like the Food Tax restaurants use in many cities or states here in the USA.

Every now and then they do propose a National Tax ( our version of VAT ) on everything as a way to balance the budget. It disappears as quickly as it appears once mentioned. They always point to the UK and Europe for how well it works...doubtful any nation "likes" more taxes. But then that's how politicians work! Using "Trial Balloons" as a way to see how well a proposal will go over. Or as I call it " viral buffoons".

When you have the Shadow Cabinet all trooping into Greggs in Redditch (least said the better - Birmingham overspill town) demonstrating their sudden or previously undeclared love for hot sausage rolls and sausage been & cheese pasties, you know that Politics has become so low as to be positively subterrainean. Imagine standing in that queue when the Balls brigade all piled in.. truly a case of WTF?

It's almost as pathetic as Cameron, Osborne and the rest of the gazillionaire Cabinet all pretending to know what a Cornish pastie is.. "Hey call me Dave, this one's got a handle on it.." :? "Should you have red or white with this?" It does my old heart good to realise that the over-indulged Tories are really just like the rest of us. I can now truly believe that we're all in it together.

Still, if nothing else, it gives Nikki a cause to rally round. The real punks went strangely silent after Thatcher got the Downing Street boot. And now the new Red Wedge is back with their custom (who ate all the) Pies T Shirts straining at the seams. What next? please God don't let there be a 2 Tone Revival..

Anyway, good on yer mate. And especially good that I don't now have to go to Digbeth next week..

Mwaaahahaha!

Then watch out: I've heard the singer of The Selector (Pauline Black, I think?) in interviews a few times recently saying that the moment is ripe for a return of 2 Tone. The Selector are touring at present and I'm sure I heard something about The Specials in yet another incarnation too.

So run for cover!

Cheers - C

PS: I'd like to see another photo of Nick's face when he reads your post and discovers his T-shirt aligns him with Red Wedge. I expect to see him wearing a very surprised expression indeed! Hee-hee...

Red wedge... I'm far more cheese wedge.

These days I have no political opinion, except for utter destruction of the farce we're sold as democracy. Capitalism has become corporatism ending all democracy in the western world. If voting changed anything it would be made illegal.

Thats my take on the parasitical nature of politics.

As for a 2tone revival. The Specials, Bad Manners, The Selector and, I think The Beat all tour regularly.
