With the exception of one day aspiring to own a Michael Gee classical concert guitar, my taste in guitars is very modest.

Give me a vintage Fender or Gibson, and I'd never be able to relax. I'd certainly never buy one. All my electrics range from budget to mid range prices.

So with this self imposed constraint, I have a new object of adoration.. The new "PRS SE Bernie Marsden". A fabulous guitar, and at street prices, potentially affordable at under £600.00. Check one out if you haven't already done so:

Obviously the dedicated PRS admirers here, may give it no consideration at all, and fair enough to them. But for those of modest pockets, this is beaut..

I already have 2 of the better SEs made - I think this will be the 3rd..

Yes, that gentleman's not gentle in his pricing, is he...?

Well, that's the second pretty PRS we've seen on the Forum in the last couple of days. I don't know it from experience so I have nothing helpful to say. It looks nice, that's for sure.

A cussed little bit of me wonders whether three SEs might equal one upper price PRS? But that's a ruthless way to think, I know.

In short, I've a feeling you're right. I think that one likely will be your third. Good for you! Rock it!

Cheers - C

And was your new Object of Adoration inspired by this?

http://www.musicradar.com/guitarist/gui ... now-533680

Well...Mine was. It is every month, unfortunately. Several times a month.

PRS SE guitars are well known for quality...it's a good choice.

That is a sweeet looking guitar!!!

I had little or no experence of PRS until a bandmate bought a 25th Anniversary custom.......
THat is probably one of the nicest guitars I have ever played but I was utterly terrified even walking about with the thing!!!

Then this week I got a PRS SE Santana model in to do a set up. That was nice apart from the crappy plastic nut. Apparently all the SE models have a plastic nut...........I find that a bit odd but hey ho......

Yes TD, Guitarist magazine was indeed the source! I went to try one out after reading about it there, and watching the Youtube videos..

Ceri, good point. Maybe 4 PRS SEs would be the same money as a basic American PRS, so I'm potentially 3/4 of the way there! But I'm an instant gratification kind of guy and a spontaneous buyer. I've never "saved up" for an expensive instrument in my life - dont have that self discipline! Maybe I'll change my habits so I can realise that Michael Gee guitar while I'm still fit enough to play it! (I'm impressed that you've even heard of him - but of course you love wood and luthiery in equal measure it seems).

Not sure about the Marsden yet - I already have so many guitars (and keyboards) that space is becoming a real issue..

I've wondered why Fender doesn't try to compete with PRS in the market of guitars with nice flamey carved tops. It's been a while since they had a "super strat" kind of model.

Sure, Fender now has the Select line of guitars, complete with nice flamey bodies, but these aren't quite full-blown PRS competition. Maybe someday ... Fender should own that market ...

The PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow is a terrific guitar for the price. Around $630.00 Canadian. The wide fat neck is a real dream to play.

indeed, thats the one ive found. im sort of wishing they did it in more than one finish though, it looks a bit too plain in the pictures ive seen. i saw a picture of the prototype one which was blue, and it looked amazing. i think colour brings out the flame maple a lot more.

I agree, the 2012 model colours are plain. I was able to pick up a 2011 model in scarlet. Looks amazing and sounds even better.

I remember that guitar and tried it at the time. AND it was in that electric blue shade. Very nice indeed but I never bought it (then regretted it of course).

My other SEs are the Soapbar II in cream with P90s and that incredible fat carved neck, and a recent Custom 24, (with neck birds) in 3 tone 'burst. I went in for the new Santana model, but preferred the 24. The quality of both of them (Korean built) give even my Strats a run for their money..

Here they are:

The pic isn't doing the guitars any favours, but I'm sure Fender would have done a better job on the 24's sunburst..
