R.I.P

Well, it's 11 years today that Joey Ramone died of lymphoma. Without the music he created and shared with the world, life would be unbearable. Though I never knew him, I can't thank him enough.

He's been gone that long? Wow! Ramones are cool! I had to grow into punk. Before punk, we had stuff like Led Zepplin, Grand Funk, Santana, Deep Purple, Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer, Allman Brothers, J.Geils, Ten Years After, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, etc..............so I hope you understand why this old dude of 56, had to grow into punk! I also had to mature into country, blues, jazz and reggae. I also dig Motown, funk and alot of oldies and some pop stuff as well.

I've been fascinated by The Ramones practically since birth. Blitzkrieg Bop was the first song I ever air drummed to 8)

They played a long feature on Joey Ramone on Sirius yesterday and included some great interviews-the guy was brilliant and definitely not the leather-clad punk that many people branded him as.He was an intelligent and very articulate man and a great poet and song writer. I Wanna Be Sedated is one of my favourite Ramones songs.

I'm sorry as much as I utterly adore the Ramones I could never describe them as intelligent or articulate.

They couldn't even say the word 'cretin' properly. For years they sang and said creetin.
Irony.
Soft hearted, kind, generous, sensitive. Yes and all of those qualities far more valuable than intelligence.

joey, judging from the songs he wrote and the occasional interview i've seen, seems like a pretty nice bloke. johnny was an all round $@!&#*%, dee dee was a smartass junkie and i've got nothing to say about tommy.

RIP joey

the ramones debut album, definetley goes down as one of my favourite albums. the energy coming out of johnnys guitar and dee dee's bass, the emotion in joeys voice and the attitude of tommys drumming just fits together as a rebelious outlet for troubled, alienated people.

Both of you. He was quite the word smith. I don't know if either of you have heard this song, considering it's off of one of their less popular albums, but most fans are blown away when I show them this. This is just a whole other side of them that a lot of people forget existed.

Also, I'd like to add that my mom always thought he was cute, since this is a thread about him

Little known fact. Thats a drum machine through that album. Ritchie Ramone never made it onto the recording.

Who'da thunk it?

I love the tracks that Dee Dee sings on. Really a few of their golden tracks imo, even though Joey was a far better singer.

Wart Hog and Endless Vacation are crazy good, just their energy and overall feeling. Sort of an aggression not normally heard within their songs.
