I'm making the move from software effects to stomp boxes and I ran across this video about using a compression pedal (gets into it around 2:30)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2vpjEjtE2c

This got me interested and I ended up getting a ModTone Lemon Squeeze after trying few out.

I'm diggin it and noticed an improvement in my clean tone right away. The only negative so far is that the LED is laser like in it's abilities to blind you. Had to put several layers of scotch tape over it to keep it in the room with me.

Here's a mini jam to chek out the sound so far.

Reverb pedal is next and the gas is already setting in even though I just got this one!

You have a good sound. Kinda want to hear it with and without. By the way, I really want to steal that and use it as a backtrack.

Thanks Jack, feel free to jam along and post the results if you want. That would be awesome. 8)

I'm jammin along a bit too but it takes me forever to get leads down, not good enough yet to really improvise effectively. Workin on that too though.

It has a nice natural compression. Sounds good. I almost always dim down LEDs with tape or something. I'm a little light sensitive, driving at night is a guaranteed headache. Really like that compression though, what other gear did you use to get that track? Strat? Direct in?

It's interesting that you mentioned moving from software effects to hardware. I have been playing with software for a long time and it's good but it can't quite replace hardware. Some software effects are better than anything I have ever herd, but the majority just can't stand up to the real thing. It's hard for me to articulate what the software is missing but there is something more sterile or lifeless about many of them. I would rather have 2 or 3 really good tones than 100 kinda good ones.

Thanks for the comments Matt. I recorded that using this setup:
Strat>Lemon Squeeze pedal>Marshall 50W head and then direct out (not recording compensated - that sounds worse for some reason). The only software effect on the recording is a little reverb.

I had the same feeling about emulated effects not being as good as harware. I was getting a decent tone for full on distortion but was never happy with clean or slightly dirty tones. I started with an overdrive pedal and loved it so much that I decided to eventually move to all pedals. I wasn't even considering compression until I ran into that video I posted, but since I play mostly clean rhythm parts it made sense. Actually shifting to playing more clean stuff was what got me to move to a Strat in the first place.

Now I'm looking at the Eventide Space for a reverb pedal next. That pedal sounds amazing in the demo's I have watched.
