It can be a local act, or an arena rocker, or anything that you consider the best you ever saw. 8)

For me, it was Little Feat (with Lowell George) right after they released "Waiting For Columbus." What a band with George, Payne, Clayton, Barrere, Gradney and the TOP horn section.

The Allman Brothers Band (original) was a close second !

The best live show would have to be Yes, the original lineup, back in the Seventies.
Second place goes to; Blackmore's Rainbow with either Ronnie James Dio, or Joe Lynn Turner on vocals.

I saw YES twice in the 70's. Once for the Going for the One tour and the other was, I forget what album they were pushing, but they were "in the round" for the first time.

This is a seriously hard question.

But I have to say, the second night of ZZ Tops first apearance in Laughlin NV. Billy and Dusty were making eye contact (Shades Contact, really) with me and my Brother (who is a Bass Player). When they noticed we were looking at their hands and fret boards, they pointed them right at us, so we could see just how they were playing. Dusty dug into the solo riff in "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide", while showing us his Fretboard, flat on. Billy showed us the neck for great tunes like "Party on the Patio", "Sharp Dressed Man", and just about any tune that didn't have strict choreography. I can finally play "Jesus Just Left Chicago" properly. I swear they've recognized us everytime we went back. Dusty even tiped his Hat to us the next year. Thanks Billy, and Dusty, and Frank.

Here's a link to an Album of Pictures my brother took of the Best Concert I've Been to. ZZ Top, September 20, 2004.

I forgot to mention, we were there for My Brother's Birthday.

(edit after posting-only the first couple pages of the album are from the concert I mentioned, the rest are other times we went to see ZZ)

Hello Miami Mike,

I Saw Ritchie Havens in a small Club in Philly
back in '76. A man and a guitar, he really
gave it his all. His guitar was a Guild and
quite a bit of wear and tear on it, the real kind.

Cheers.

PINK FLOYD DARK SIDE OF THE MOON TOUR in Pittsburgh at the civic arena. They opened the roof and the rest, for me, was history.

Hmm, either Joe Satriani on the "Flying in a Blue Dream" tour--with Stu Hamm & Jonathan Mover,

or

the second time I saw BB King.

That's a hard one. I'll have to go with:

1. Yo La Tengo
2. Smashing Pumpkins
3. The Pixies
4. High On Fire
5. Sonic Youth
6. My Morning Jacket
7. Bad Brains
8. Dead Meadow
9. The Black Keys
10. Red Hot Chili Peppers

For Mother's Day 1976 I took my Mom to the local County Fair to see Marty Robbins. There were only about 20 people there to see the show so it was very personal.

Yeah, I love that rare intimate performance. In the mid 70's I saw the Dixie Dregs at a small bar in Rocky Hill, NJ outside of Princeton. I think it was a mid week gig and there was no one there. Not too many people knew who they were. There were maybe 30 people at the most. We all had a great time getting crocked and hanging with the band.
