OK, I did a harder rock than I'm used to. This was for Buxom to critique and tell me what I should learn.

Also, here's something that's a little more my style these days.....getting mellow as I age.

Please feel free to gripe, complain, critique, etc. I used my new Boss RC2 loop station in the first one. Still learning to use it, but am loving it.

First one was pretty good. I would have liked to hear some more dynamics/separation of the two guitar tones--maybe use fuzz for the rhythm and distortion for the lead or other way around. A tiny little bit pitch-y about one-third of the way through, but in an interesting way (not a glaring error or anything) and you recovered nicely.

The second song was very pretty. I could almost see it as "bed" music or background music on a sentimental scene in a movie or something like that. I liked that one a lot--in fact, I would like to hear more of something along those lines. Excellent!

Good job! I award you 300 Armadillo Bucks* for the second song.

*Not redeemable when awarded for second songs.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to work on the rock. As much as I like it, I know jack about playing it. Still got lots to learn....and hope to keep learning till the day I die.

As far as the second one...it's funny that you said it sounded kinda like "bed" music. I was going for "go to sleep" bed music. I did that for my cousin's 4 year old. When she stays over here, I normally break out an acoustic and fingerpick till she falls asleep. Her mother had been asking for something that she could play on a CD to put the little tyke to sleep so I did this. I also added the rhythm of Rain Song and Dust in the Wind on the CD, but she only likes this. She makes her mommy put it on replay till she falls asleep....either she doesn't like Classic rock that's soft or my versions suck.

I'll keep trying to earn my Armadillo Bucks!

Little slow and soft for me. But if I had to pick, it'd be door #1. I'd buy an album though. Like I said, I'm not a magnifying glass kinda guy.

Well, that review was sure worth the wait

My 2 cents worth - I like it, a bum note there in the first one , but who cares. The second was nice, really ambient and relaxing.
You have a good feel for the music, good timing and technique. You have all the necessary knowledge and skill to move forward and create whatever genre of music you feel like.
Goodonya ....Mark.

Thanks man. I need to increase my lick library so I can talk a little more in rock rather than baby babble. I'll keep on moving forward till the day I croak I hope.

As with most people, I'm my own worst critic and my take on the first one was (and was hoping Buxom would hear this) that it was a little whiny, there were some missed notes definitely, and there was no real dialogue in the lead. I was just throwing stuff together. I hope that as I learn more, I can put my "sentences" together to tell a story that really flows. Kinda like how I feel after I listen to Vai. I feel the guy just sang the song through his guitar....and no I'll never be Vai....but I sure can work to get there!

Buxom, as you learn more about music, chords, scales, etc. you can move forward with your own style of music and you can get a better understanding of what you want. Having others critique and give pointers helps you get an idea of what you need to work on. That was my point.

Oh and I do appreciate the compliments on the second song. It makes a guy feel good to hear things other than...."You suck!"

Now.....question....Why don't I sound like Vai?!!!! This guitar must be a POS! I should have known it when these tone thingies couldn't change from Hendrix to Metallica! The damn thing must be defective! I'm calling Fender!!!

I wondered why the sound was only in one side on the first one.

I would like to hear the second one with the rhythm track done on an acoustic.

SA is right about separation of tone on the first one. you also need to play that one a bit faster.

The sound was only in one side on the first one because of the looper. When you play through it and record it, it isn't in stereo. The looper is really better for practice and playing around rather than recording. As far as playing faster....I gotta get better, but I agree.

I like the idea of acoustic background. May have to do that. Of course, I'll have to figure out the chords etc, again. As I said in an earlier post, I put it all down after a couple of tries and figuring out what I want to do. I rarely play anything again after I record it. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to listen to and figure out though. Thanks for the idea.
