Wookee, you saw that The Ninja just offered to do it for free? That makes 80 quid look pretty steep, all of a sudden.

Unless I've misunderstood, and pro bono in fact means Nick earns his living impersonating an Irish rock singer...

hmmm, im struggling to get pictures of the fret wear this is probably the best pic, which dosnt help much:

i'll try using a better camera tomorrow. i spoke to a friend who works in a shop, and he thinks if i cant feel it affecting the strings or anything, its probably not much to worry about. but i think the intonation is out on it aswell, and he said worn frets could contribute to this.

nikininja - i dont know what a fret dress would cost, but bearing in mind id somehow have to get the guitar to you in person anyway (dont fancy posting it) its going to cost me in petrol or train tickets anyway. and with my classic car, petrol costs would probably be enough to buy a new neck, let alone frets

many thanks for the offer though.

lastly, iw as in the loft today, and couldnt resist pulling down a couple of guitars i had up there, ive nto seen them for years. first, my first ever guitar, an entry level fender acoustic, that to this day sounds surprsingly nice, and smells ace. i always felt pretty lucky that my first guitar was a fender, even if it was the bottom of the rung.

and here is the Jedson Telecaster this thread was originally about. apologies for the paintjob, not only is it not very well done, but its a bit indie, a bit '90's - im a big oasis fan.

it looks, feels and sounds cheap. but, it gives that thin, brash Jack White type sound in spades. the zero fret is pretty bad, all but the low E are sitting in grooves on the zero fret, pinging out of the groove when you bend. and the electrics are a bit tempermental.

Moochy.

That is no more than a simple fret leveling job. Get the train to Grantham next weekend. We'll get some beer in and sort the guitar(s) out.

I'd best have a listen to some U2 and get some silly sun glasses.

I'll happily help anyone out with something simple like a fret leveling job. Just bring the thing to me, don't expect me to turn out 15 jobs in 27 minutes.

All I expect is to have a laugh, biscuits are a must for teetotalers to bring. Anyone else, bring some booze and a smile.

Oh and don't be surprised if you're attacked by a 3ft high drumming whirlwind of anarchy and mayhem.

i just checked the trains, 50 quid + beer money, bus fare to and from the station here, thats 65-70 quid. and going by your suggestion of 80 quid for a re-fret, that sounds like quite alot for the sake of the fret dressing. :( i dont wanna sound tight, but i dont have cash to throw about willy nilly unfortunately. probably would have been a good laugh though - as long as you kept your bono fetish to yourself

Hello Moochy: a fast glance at National Rail Enquiries shows you can travel Norwich-Grantham one way for £12.

Personally, I'd jump at Nick's offer gladly and speedily. You won't do better pricewise (or anything close); and the pleasure of a beer with a Forum legend into the bargain. If it were me I'd already be on my way!

Cheers - C

I've never had that problem on my 63 Supro Martinique. It's actually one of the longer sustaining guitars I own. My Supro is almost 50 years old and the intonation is close to perfect. There is a definite difference between open and fretted notes. Then again I have no other zero fret guitars to compare it to so my reference point is limited.
