Your problem is directly and totally traceable to poor quality control on Fender's part.


I thought so! I am going to take this thing down to my guitar tech and get everything (but the neck pocket) sanded down to bare wood. Don't worry, I know better than to mess with the trem block.

Sanding won't cut it. You've got to turn the truss rod until the walnut cap pops out, it really kills the midrange that clapton's tone is known for. Then just twist it back to normal, run your guitar through at least three distortion pedals, and voila! instant "layla" tone!
