Absolutely it's an FS1, FS2 or as Martain said (far more expert that I, and knows Dimarzio inside out), it's an equivalent made for one of the Ibanez or Music Man guitars by Dimarzio.

Jealous, I need one. If you auction it, let me know.

Thats great to hear that it's an FS1/2! :D Sorry to say, but I think I gotta keep this one. I think I'll put it in my Strat! What would be a better position Neck or Middle? (Can't do a bridge position because a humbucker is already there.)

Really it is a bridge pickup.

Prime for this tone

I'd be tempted to put it in the neck position if I simply couldn't lose the humbucker. Kind of an excessive output affair. It'll definitely match most bridge buckers for output in that position. It's going to be muddy though. So maybe use a 1meg tone pot, if you have a 500k vol pot for the humbucker. Tone pots don't make a whole load of difference but you do get a bit. It may help pull the treble through a bit more.

I wouldn't use it in the middle. Because of potential polarity issues with the humbucker (depending on who made the bucker).

Bah back to Ebay for my Johnny Ramone tone quest.

Based on the overall construction, it is definitely not an older one. I stand by what I said earlier.

How would the construction differ if it were older? Just curious.

At least the lower part of the bobbin was made out of melamine, the magnets were '50s staggered with the edges hand ground, the leads were thicker, the pickups were unpotted and the DC resistance tolerances were wider.

FWIW, I've known Larry DiMarzio since 1971.
