The telecaster attracts dust at an unbelievable rate of knots. I dust it quite often, but I had to hurry between dusting it and photographing it! The finish is quite reflective-look carefully and you can see my Classic Guitars poster! Infact, the whole thing is very reflective, and it's actually quite hard to take pictures of it! :D

Sonic Blue, no doubt about it.

Interesting mod job on your Strat TD..

But you know me, I was also trying to get a better look at that piece of sheet music you have on your music stand. Couldn't quite make it out..

That Tele makes a convincing argument for a gloss black finish!

However, I do still have a vision in my head of a Strat in (Gibson) Pelham Blue with a cream white scratchplate..

It was El Roble from Grade 6 :D :D

Thanks for the compliment on the strat-it turns heads, in a good way, so it seems to work. In the summer I will be in a music concert at school, and I use my strat for stuff at school. People saw it last year without that pickguard, so it will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

I think a big problem with the darker finishes, is how any small amount of dust is so obvious. You can't see any dust on my strat, but on the tele-only 20 seconds after a good dusting that left very little dust on the guitar-it is everywhere!

I personally love flamed maple tops, especially on a PRS. Fender does some, but not quite as much to my liking. Although nobody does the old school plain finishes quite like fender seems to.

ralfcaetano, I think you've started a very interesting thread! :D

My black Strat & SG clone seem to be dust magnets - black just shows off those particles!

I use a (Dean Markley) microfibre cloth and it seems to get the dust off a week or so. An ordinary duster just seems to attract nearly as much dust as you wipe off. :? But don't use one on your Alhambra - it left marks on my new Raimundo that I didn't immediately notice.. :x :(

Ouch... That must hurt :( Unlucky :? :( The cloth I use comes from a gibson guitar care kit. I use it on my electrics, but thankfully, the thought has never occurred to me to use it on my alhambra. :o

I have wondered whether to use a slightly damp cloth because that would actually properly get rid of the dust on the guitar, rather than just putting it in the air, to settle again on the guitar. But, it seems to be a rule not to expose guitars to water, at all (obviously apart from humidity).

That does look nice!! 3-tone sunburst is where I get really picky. My Squier, I could care less about. But it came mail order, sight unforeseen, and for a good price. My 90's Hamer is awesome. Where I gauge a sunburst is how well the red blends. It's important to me that it has a good fade into the black and the yellow tint, and doesn't just look like 3 stripes. When it blends and fades well, Sunbursts are extremely badass in my opinion.

Yes, I agree. Well-done sunbursts are great. If Sunburst is going to be included in the poll, it should be a good sunburst-perhaps, for the poll, ralfcaetano it might be good if you posted an example of each option-therefore voting on a colour that everyone is seeing the same, not individual ideas of sunburst, black, etc.

hmm you're probably right though i'm talking about the finishes in general... i don't really like sunburst at all... but i might have to re do this topic... i'm thinking we could nominate colours for each guitar...

-best colour for a strat

-best colour for a tele

-best colour for a jazzmaster

etc.

what do you guys think?

That's probably the way to do it, different guitars look good in different finishes. I love sonic blue strats, but a tele in that color would look iffy at best. Midnight wine teles are gorgeous but I would never buy a strat in that color. Probably best to split the poll.

My favorite color is white blonde. I love the way the grain pops. I usually buy guitars in translucent finishes. She gets prettier as she ages.
BTW. her name is Ferrari.

I agree, for me a sunburst has to fade from color to color....even the pre CBS and later sunbursts often had so much of a defining line they were often called a "target" finish,I don't like the looks of that at all.

Check this out!! It says it's from Fender Japan. What a great looking guitar body!!

Image

I think I would change the pickguard, knobs, and p/u covers. But the body and neck combination is outstanding!
