Well I like Sonic Blue and Surf Green. These colors just scream the 1950s to me.

I'll throw my Transparent Cobalt Blue into the mix.

It's dark enough to look black in a dimly lit room, pure class, like BB king's tuxedo.

...but what I really want is a red guitar.

These are ALL some beautiful guitars !
I'm espescially gassin' for scarleg's natural ash with maple fret board.
Yum!
(although, I'd put a black pick guard on it with black knobs 'n' pickups....
...but that's just my personal preference)

I used to be in the "sunburst is dull and boring" club, too.
But some which are well done, like that bass (above) are just awesome.
Sunburst isn't one I'd choose, but there are some fine specimens out there.

Black: Hmmm...
I think black looks best in the context of a full-on blacked-out guitar.
I'm talkin' black pickups, knobs, bridge, trem arm,...everything.

Looks like it's good that Fender offers a lot of different colors and finishes - the taste is surely divided! I like a lot of them , but nowadays I love the color of my 3TSB tele. This picture ain't quite fair to the colors - the borders of the colors are much smoother when you look at the guitar ,than it is on this iPhone -pic. I also like other natural finishes - showing grain - love ash 8)

The color choices are as varied as the people who play them, that's for sure. I don't think any color looks bad as long as it has some color, natural just isn't for me.

One thing I really think is great is when the headstock is painted to match the body, my strat, my Montara, and my Squier bass are all like that. It's just a classy touch in my opinion, really dresses up a guitar.

No on has mentioned this color scheme and I've been told it's ugly before but I really love my Band of Gypsy's strat.

To these eyes, the most amazing Strat I've ever seen is the Jaguar Cars tribute model in British Racing Green - Alain Le France has one. I don't because I don't have £15,000.00.

But for the more modestly pocketed of us, it has to be:

5) Sonic Blue
4) Sea Foam Green
3) Olympic White
2) Two tone Burst (three tone is tacky)

AND

1) Fiesta Red.. preferably a little distressed.. the ultimate spirit of R n R captured in a guitar..

Two-tone sunburst on a Tele. Fiesta Red on anything else.

I also like nice pinky-cedar tops on acoustics.

Now about black, I agree with the people who's opinion is that it is very boring. However, I only think it's boring for a stratocaster-the shape of the body there, in my view, does not lend itself to black. However, I do think a black telecaster is very cool. Although so is white.

those photos - which are mint - made me realise a big thing we're not considering here - the colour and shape of the scratchplate makes a huge difference, IMO as much difference as colour, to how nice a guitar looks. i dont care much for the shape of standard tele scratchplates, but the ones from the custom '70's teles look great i think. and white plates on strats really bore me aswell. obviously they can be changed, so arent as much of a problem, but it is something i consider when buying a guitar.

What about this scratchplate then? :) :)

Those photos aren't great, I can't take steady shots with that camera for some reason. I should say, the previous photos are from the internet, I haven't got a photo of my tele on the internet. But no difference really.

I'll just go and take some better photos
