The Mississippi Valley Blues Fest is held in Davenport, Iowa 29 June - 1 July, the lineup again this year is great IMO. I've been to several MVBFs and they have all been great.

I took my 'new' honey to the 2010 fest, it was the first blues fest that she had ever attended, she loved it. We didn't go last year because she had a knee replacement. I've already booked our rooms!

Tony, Didn't see your name on the lineup? Even so, that is a fine lineup...we expect pics upon your return...you always seem to get some nice ones!

We were to play in 2009, but that's when my bass player's cancer spread to his brain.

I went ahead and went, and 'Super Chikan' called me up to play during his workshop.

OOOPPPSS  You had already "Been There Done That" :!: Sorry about your bass player, did not know.

By the way, what is that guitar your playing? Looks like an updated Epiphone Frying Pan!

I had posted about it before you joined, this is part of the reason why 'The Primetime Blues Band' isn't anymore.

The harp player wanted me to replace him, but I was waiting to see if the chemo treatment worked, so he quit. The treatments did work, to some extent, but he's now in 'stage 4' with lesions on his spine.

Oh, I see that you don't know about James 'Super Chikan' Johnson http://www.arts.state.ms.us/folklife/artist.php?dirname=johnson_james, he makes guitars out of combined discarded guitar parts with old Army gas cans, creating “Chikantars. I'm playing one of his creations.

He sells those guitars, and one fan at the festival paid him $1500 for the one I played!

Yeah, I guess I am coming a bit late to Super Chikan Johnsons story, great articel and info...thanks...and cool that he uses recycled guitar parts to make "New" ones!
