I apologize Martian. I've been working nights for over 2 months, and I guess I kinda got up on the wrong side of the bed today. I first thought that you were saying "I" was a SRVabee. Now I understand where you are coming from. SRV is the newest bluesman to make such an impact in the blues music industry. He single handedly brought blues to mainstream. That's why so many people sound like him. But, I'm sure you knew that already.

There was a point when I was told that I sounded like an SRV clone. I had to work hard to lose those SRV traits. Didn't listen to him for years, but some of those licks are still there. I guess I'll see how many "SRVabees" sign up.

No problem!

One year with this contest, I went to my local GC hoping to hear some really good stuff. There were two guys there whom I thought were original and inherently outstanding, older players as a matter of fact who went on first and second. Man, they could wail! Notwithstanding, they met with 'polite' applause after each were done. Then, one after the other after the other, SRV imitators of all ages. It reminded me of say, a Star Trek convention where everyone who attends wears a related uniform or costume of some sort, adopting the 'appropriate' mannerisms of their character of choice. One even went as far as knocking off his hat while playing for effect which really excited the audience. I knew right then and there that this is essentially where this contest was going and it wasn't about originality nor inherent talent. Ironically, even though this particular guy was the best of the SRV clones and drew the loudest response from the audience, he didn't win. Rather, the two who did were the manager's young cousin and some other rich kid who spends thousands of dollars a month in that store. And yes, their 'stylings' were clearly a product of simplified, recited SRV tablature, where playing in multiple keys simultaneously was acceptable for evidently, that's the way they memorized it. Yet and reinforcing your point, SRV is what many nowadays recognize as, "The Blues" and as we all know, it's not about satiating the performer or the pundits of the genre, it's totally about satiating the audience. Good luck!
