I was buying some new string today and they caught my eye, I remember someone posting the promo video about them. I thought why not, might as well try them out. I guess I was lucky as they just arrived that morning, not even the guys in the shop have been able to try them yet.

I'm just away to string them up now so when I get the chance I'll report back. I went for standard 10-46 gauge. They were kinda pricey, about double the cost of a normal set of Erie Ball regular slinky....

Guitar Center was essentially sold out, and they're back ordered where I work. Let me know what you think, I'm curious. I'll probably pick up a set of .10's when they come in, but I want to try pure nickels first.

If they live up to the hype, there's a noticable difference in out put and clarity.

At twice the price, they'd have to be good. I'd probably give them a try. I've been known to use the gold plated Maximas.
Let us know how they are. I have a Cobalt blue CS Strat to test them on 8)

I've got pure nickels on my Strat and my Epi LP Custom. Very vintage sounding, I love 'em! Every note just rings. Alot better than Nickel plated.IMHO.

But I would like to try a set of those cobalts.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I have the Pyramid Nickle on my stat and DR Pure Blues on my LP. I like them both. I put the cobalt on my Tele and took them off after one day because the increased output made the P90's a bear to control. I'm hoping the cobalts I took off are long enough to put on my strat when it needs new strings. But the nickel's are lasting a long time. I liked the feel and sound of the cobalt, and I probably should have tried lowering the pickups on the tele, but I didn't.

Yeah, I tried the cobalts on my Epi LP. They made it way too "hot" sounding. Went back to the pure nickel Ernie Ball 8-38s after one gig. When I find something that works, especially with strings, I tend to be really close-minded about trying alternatives.

+1 Years ago I used to use Dean Markley High Output on my Strat and loved them. Sadly they were discontinued. They weren't twice the price and Cobolt wasn't involved. I could see something HO on a Fender single coil pup, but the last thing I need on my Gibson LP with P-90's is higher output.

martynrss2, will be interesting to get your description. I've been wondering about them for a couple months. 8)

Judging from the early reviews, the Heavy Metal scene will be interested in radioactive cobalt strings.

All right so here comes the verdict....

I like these strings. Very much so. Compared with the normal standard slinkys with the amp on the same settings there is definitely a noticeable difference. They seem to ring out a bit more and clearly have a slightly higher output. On my American Standard I think they sound great, not sure how well they would sound with more vintage or higher output pickups though.

Are they worth the price....I don't know. £12 compared to a fiver is quite a step up, and I don't know if there will be any difference in longevity. I probably will buy them again because I do really like them but that's just my personal opinion. I do think they are definitely worth checking out though.
