Sorry guys, I've really been turning to the dark side lately. First the Marshall amp, now this. It was just too good a deal to pass up. One of those things where the guy quit playing and just wanted to get rid of his stuff. Anyways, it's a Les Paul Standard Plus Top in Cherry Burst. Sorry for the horrendous iphone photos, hopefully I can take some better ones when I find my camera charger. This guitar needs a few things; the bridge pickup cuts in and out. The guy said he took it to guitar center, and it looks like they really jacked up the wiring, so I'm going to trash the crappy Korean switch and re-wire it. Definitely switching to the "50s" Gibson wiring too. As soon as I got it home, I sanded the back of the neck and set it up for 9-42s, same as my Fenders, and it plays amazing! Really great feel to the neck. Especially since the '62RI neck on my main Strat is so chunky, this doesn't really feel that foreign, even with the shorter scale. It's super fast. You can't tell in the crappy pics, but I wet sanded the entire body and then hand-buffed it to make it shiny, but not "plastic-dipped" like they look from the factory. Seriously, you guys think the Fender Poly finishes are thick... man oh man.
Neck pickup sings, and the bridge pickup sounds good - when it works. They don't really seem to have that "bloom" like a really good Les Paul though, so I'll probably look into replacements. Anyways, really excited to finally have an LP-style guitar in my collection, and I'm looking forward to making this guitar into an awesome player.

Nothing dark about it mate.
Strats into Marshalls
Les Pauls into Fender amps.

It's the natural order of things.

As for pickups, hmmm.....
The problems I've had with mine. I know exactly what you mean about the 'Bloom'. And in truth I think it's more down to the eq of the pickup than anything else. I took the Burstbuckers out of my Les Paul and put them in my strat. They were way too powerful for what I wanted the LP for. I replaced em with some very low powered PAF clones.
The guitar was really bright to begin with. The low powered pickups accentuated that. And I'd lost the 'bloom'.

So after months of internal wrangling I decided that I'd muck about with the pot resistance to see if I could get the excessive high mids down.
Unable where I live to easily obtain good quality pots. Let alone ones of unusual value or longshaft design. I decided to wire some resistance parallel across the volume pot of the bridge pickup. Then had the bright idea of, "why bother with set resistors when all a pot is, is a variable resistor".
So I took another pot, wired it's lugs 2&3 between the existing pots lugs 1&3. Then played around with the settings of the resistor pot till I got a sound I wanted out of the guitar.
Sounds great now and it's adjustable. For the price of an old pot and two bits of wire.

As promised, here's some better pics. Still not great, but at least the iphone camera had some light to work with. Love the flame top on this guitar, it's absolutely breathtaking in person!

Nice guitar. Congratulations. I ordered a set of Limited Edition Bonamassa '59 Burst Pickups from Seymour Duncan. Since I don't want to change my current LP, that means I get to buy another so I can use my new pickups. And I happen to have a birthday coming up. I love when a plan comes together. :) Enjoy the new guit!

Thanks! Yeah, considering I picked this thing up for $200, I'd say it was well worth it! I actually played out with it tonight; I used my Pro Jr. though and it also sounded amazing out of that. Does sound killer out of the Marshall Class 5 though - and considering I had the volume on my Pro Jr at 4-5 and it was easily filling a small club, I'm thinking of trying the Class 5 next time. Either way I'm definitely in love with this guitar.

Well yeah, there is that approach! Got a feeling you'd like the Class5 mate.

I tried a Class5 last month. I did like it. I already have a 5 watt tube amp (a modified Epiphone Valve Junior) that has about the same circuit. So if Marshall had a 20 watt version, I'd be on it like white on rice.

A 1967 Jen Fuzz-Wah? I'd love to try it! My Thomas Organ Cry Baby Wah is from the early 70's.

Exactly what a person of your skills needs
http://www.gak.co.uk/en/marshall-1974x- ... o-amp/4380

Though that is a ridiculous price. So do what I did and build your own. All in it cost me a quarter of the price of that amp.
