My wife "volunteered" me to bowl in a fund raiser for Big Brothers-Big Sisters. I haven't bowled in probably 45 years or so, and it showed  . But I got to meet some of her co-workers and spouses, and we all had a good time. I raised 200 bucks in sponsorship, so my day wasn't a total waste, and it felt good to help a worthy cause. One of our team members even ended up flat on his back sliding down the alley   , now I understand why they made us sign a release form  . I don't think I'll be trading my Strats or Teles for a bowling ball any time soon , but I had fun just the same.

Anybody else here do fund raisers that aren't music related?

Well, my bride of 29 years heard that our church was short on mammon. She's a 3rd degree black belt in Uei Chi Riu and offers a women's self-defense class. She donates all the money to the church.
Most of the fundraising I've been involved in is music-related... she raised more money in 2 weeks than I did in 2 years

During my time in the AF I did tons of volunteer work. Everything from refurbing retirements homes, fund raisers for Breast Cancer, to picking up roadside trash in communities I have lived in. After I retired I started doing counseling for drug and alcohal abusers.

I have always felt if you are not doing something for those in the community you live in then your are not really a part of that community, but mearly living there.

good for you!

my wife and i believe in giving back. we give food to our church's food bank on a regular basis. it's an easy and inexpensive way to help.

my company raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

my wife's place of employment (one of those big box stores that people love to dump on) does a ton of charity work. recently one of their employees lost everything in a fire. her co-workers started a fund to help, and it spread to other branch stores. the company is going to match it.

we all need to help in our own little way
