Right as i said,i need an answer really quickly.I have just sold a 2004 USA Fender Telecaster on Ebay.Guy who bought it is saying it is 'not' a USA model, why? He says there are two string trees on the headstock and there should be two height adjustment screws on the neck pickup.I instantly checked for pics all over the internet and sent him dozens of pics of Scratchpltes 'wothout' screws for height adjustment,i also found a few pics of USA models with two string trees! He is also saying something about the truss rod but is unable to verify this due to the pic i sent, here are some pics,is it a USA one? Thanks!

I'm no expert, but is that truss rod binding made of walnut? I can't tell from the pictures.

I think its black plastic, like on import models.

I wouldn't buy it.

That's what I thought. The binding looked to be plastic, like a MIM. It's really bad quality though. Also, the SN looks kinda italicized. The tuners look cheap and it looks like they have some kind of layer of glue around the washers. The knobs look kinda weird too.

My god,so many questions, are you the police lol?I bought it used off a guy locally who by coincidence i have bought a few things off over the years,he is a genuinely nice chap.I called him last night and he was as genuinely shocked as i was,he's actually offered to take it back from me,that's how nice a chap he is!It's not as if he was trying to deliberatly deceive me.I paid £300 for it,about $480.I haven't had a Tele before so i really didn't bother,or know what i was looking at.Strange this is i sold my Les paul before buying this and one of the guys that came to see that went on and on about things he wasn't sure about with the guitar, but he was trying to get me down in price,he was wrong in every respect with all the points he brought up,and now 'i' get caught out!:-)

Take it to an authorized Fender dealer and I'm sure they can tell you for sure.

Ah, but we've hardly started! :)

We know what this guitar isn't, but not what it is.

Obviously, the strings trees and the black plastic trussrod access liner mean it isn't a US Strat. Therefore the decals front and back are fake, and since the guitar has been sold somewhere down the chain as a real Am Std that is deliberate fraud and someone has been ripped off (which is why some of us mind about fake decals).

But what have the decals been stuck onto? The black plastic liner says it's either a Mexican or a Korean built neck (I don't recal seeing the black liner on a totally fake instrument). Yet I can't think of a model from either factory around that time that had a rosewood fingerboard and 22 frets. Some sort of Special Edition Korean Tele, perhaps - but I can't find one that fits.

Curious. I wonder if anyone else has thoughts?

Cheers - C

No, I don't think it's that. I think it's a real Fender but from lower in the catalog, with the decal removed and a fake one put on to make it look more expensive and get more money upon resale. There are some crappy people out there.

But which lower model... I don't know.

Cheers - C

Somebody called my name? 8)

What disturbs me is the intonation. No Fender guitar ever leaves a Fender factory with such a setting of the saddles. Maybe you can play rock'n'roll with that

Cheers

It actually looks a lot like Westfield............I have done some work on their Strat copies (E1000) and, although they don't advertise the tele style (E3000) on their site.... .....they can easy be found on ebay or the likes........

Westfield is one of those companies that is made in a factory with about 5 other brands....they aren't half bad for modding........but a Fender they ain't!!

Their decals come off really easy and don't leave faded sanding marks if you are careful.

They have the plastic liners too but I have seen only one string tree on the teles.......

Curious.......... :?
