Hey guys (and girls), I posted this on the Strat-talk forum yesterday, but I just finally picked up a Marshall Class 5 combo yesterday! I love this amp! I'm off work today and I've been playing it all morning. Does the Frusciante thing perfectly with my Strats, and it NAILS early-Zep with my Tele. The cranked sound is just sooo creamy, really pleasing to the ears. I think the speaker has loosened up a bit since I bought it; I really like the stock speaker and I think it'll only sound better as it breaks in more. The only thing I want to change is find some nice NOS tubes, maybe some preamp tubes that will give me a little more headroom. The cleans have that creamy Plexi light crunch to them; I'm hoping I can get that sound but just a little higher on the volume knob. I have yet to play this amp out, but I'm thinking I'll do that Sunday at an open jam and see how it does. Seems like it will have plenty of volume, as long as there aren't any "one-dynamic" drummers or dicks with wayyy too loud amps, which is always a crapshoot I guess, haha. I also tried running this in tandem with my Pro Junior using a Boss CE-1 as a splitter, and MAN that combo sounded amazing. Really excited to see how this amp records too; overall I couldn't be happier, for $350 new (mine was a b-stock), I really think this made-in-the-UK amp is a steal! Plus the mini-Bluesbreaker looks are just incredibly sexy, and I like the fact that it's big enough not to look like a novelty or toy on stage.

I love the classic styling of it. Probably sounds great.

My friend's brother was given one of these for free, his friend's dad ordered one, but somehow, he was sent 2.

And, I must say, I love it. I played through it once and it was killer.

Love mine. Take it up to 3 at rehearsals.
Mullard yellow label (early 60's) all the way through.

I just wish those amps had reverb in them - that's the only reason I don't own one. After all my years playing Fender amps, I just can't take a "dry" amp and no, I don't want the bother of hooking up a reverb pedal - that's what the reverb IN the amp is for.

When the amp sounds good, you don't need reverb. CR'.

Just kidding. Why would you use reverb with the classic Marshall sound though? It's just not about reverb. Delay, a long delay I could understand. Not reverb though.

I'm not a big reverb guy either, unless it's Fender spring reverb being used in an over-the-top manner as a special effect. The Marshall reverbs always sounded like garbage in my opinion anyways - it's just not their thing. I don't know, it can be nice for living room practice, but I haven't had an amp with reverb in a while and I don't miss it, you get used to it.

I do, however, have one of those old Digitech digital delays/loopers, and I dusted it off and set it up for a really short slapback delay and jammed out on the Zeppelin version of "You Shook Me" for a while. Sounded perfect with the Tele and this amp, so I may have to work that pedal back into my rotation.

Yeah thats my point, it's not the sound you'd use the amp for.

For reverb and delay I use this

Very cool Niki. Do you splice your own tape?

No but thats a cool idea. Record what I want on tape, put it on and blank off the record head to stop it getting wiped.

Welcome to the Marshall fan club, there are quite a few Marshall owners on the forum, including me (3) and I just love them, there isn't an amp that can come close to the tone of a Marshall-except some of the Vox modeling amps, but I digress.Congrats on buying such a fine amp,I have a feeling that you'll be buying more because as it is with Fenders-one is never enough.

Note to Nikininja: Back in the poor days guys around here who couldn't afford to buy new tapes for their tape echoes would take the tape from 8-tracks-which were a perfect fit-and wind them onto the old cartridges. This method worked out to be only a fraction of the cost because you could pick up new bargain bin 8-trackapes for a couple of bucks.

I'm glad to hear about another happy Class5 owner. That amp has the right amount of knobs!
