And then there are the outdoor amp shots - much easier than guitars, I think...

...certainly good enough for insurance purposes!

Here are a couple of pictures I have taken in the last 2 days. The headstock picture was taken outside, while the Strat and Tele picture was taken inside. What advise would you photo experts give me for taking better quality pictures?

Different angles can make it interesting.

All about lighting, and trying to find interesting angles. I mean think about it, the only angles you see in guitar books are the straight-on shots, but when you're seeing a guitar in real life, at a show or whatever, rarely are you standing dead straight in front of it like that. Capturing it from a different angle kind of brings it to life IMO.

I like this one:

I did some photoshopping because I wanted to bring out the color. But yeah it's hard and you can still see me on the reflection.

Ah it depends. If you want to present your guitar at its best , choose a neutral background, medium greys are the best.
The background will affect the overall tone of your photo. Beware.
We use a roll of mineral grey paper which fits for all colors.
It's hanging behind the table and slides under the guitar to be shot, so to avoid any undesired shadows.
I've seen some guitars for sale photographed on a tribal carpet and I wondered what was for sale...
We use two indirect spots placed on each side of the guitar.
The guitar is kept up with a small heavy stand just placed behind it.

Then you can find the proper light by slightly moving the two lateral spots to enhance the texture of the guitar:
Image
Some are easy to photograph: Teles, non carved guitars, most of the Strats, but some are mind-blowing, black lacquered and the worst: chrome guitars.
For the latters we have a black curtain with a small hole for the lens and we shoot with a remote control
Image

We photograph in RAW so giving us full openess to modify the photos.
We use Photoshop seldomly as we may consider the original photo as faulty in that case.
With digital photography you can make as many photos as you wish, but note somewhere what adjustments you've done each time.
You'll save time next time.
Any definition higher than 72ppi is useless for internet.
Enjoy photographying your beauties and show them to us.

Quite good search for a neutral background and best lighting.
The eyes capture the instrument (and/or amp) instantly.
Classy photos.

Oh man, so many good photos on this thread! Thanks to everyone for showing. 8)

This one is clever because of the tricky reflections. BTW, love the control knobs on this guitar. Very much not the cheapo metallic-look plastic ones:
