Easily.... Jimi Hendrix, who wrote the song had the best version !!

Listen to the version on " Hendrix in the West " recorded at the San Diego Sports Arena. This is the DEFINITIVE version with Hendrix at his peak along with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The definitive versions of " Red House" and " Voodoo Chile " are on here as well.
So, by your logic, The Leaves did a better "Hey Joe" than Jimi?

They did?
Yep, 1962. Although "better" might not apply.

I was stating a fact .... read it carefully.... Jimi Hendrix who wrote the song - then I gave MY opinion that he had the best version. The writer of a particular song sometimes does not have the best version or at least what a listener considers the best version. Have you heard Hendrix's "Little Wing" on Hendrix in the West ??? I can say I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan play several versions and they aren't as good as Jimi Hendrix's !!! Have you ????

I have SRV's version on vinyl and it is my all time favorite guitar piece.

I know Jimmi's version is sweet too.

its funny how we argue over such light stuff, its music and music tastes are as varied as they could possible be.

ease up guys and enjoy the tunes. :D

I thought you meant, "Jimi, who wrote the song had the best version." not "Jimi, who wrote the song, had the best version." I'll read more carefully

And I have heard that version, but I really don't like Mitch Mitchell or Noel Redding. If Jimi could have played it with Double Trouble, he mat have had the best version.

Hendrix had a delicate artistry that was his own. I love SRV, and his version as well. Hendrix, for all the famous wah, played extremely delicate guitar pieces and also sang with soul.

Jimi is sweet, Stevie is just mind blowing but Clapton (Derek and the D's) is just soo emotional....

Derek and the D's did this as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix who had just died ( Sept.18, 1970 ). It is very emotional and a fitting tribute to a man who was a genius at playing the electric guitar and being a great songwriter - what a shame he died so young !!!

I agree that the "In the West" version is definitive version.

Eric Clapton's doing it, and I've got to say wow! The delicacy of Hendrix, with his unexcelled musicianship.

Check it out!

Wrong link. That's Derek and the Domino's from a while ago. Here's the one.

The reason I said Stevie's was my favorite was because (a) Stevie's my favorite, and (b) I think his has the most feeling. Every day I have to listen to the song at least once. It really means that much to me. 8)
