The Corrs also did a very nice version.

Easily.... Jimi Hendrix, who wrote the song had the best version !!

Listen to the version on " Hendrix in the West " recorded at the San Diego Sports Arena. This is the DEFINITIVE version with Hendrix at his peak along with Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding. The definitive versions of " Red House" and " Voodoo Chile " are on here as well.

I am going to have to go with SRV on this one. The candid recording of it makes the genuine emotion packed rendition even more poignant.

SRV would probably have chosen Jimi's version of ''Little Wing''.

Jimi and SRV fan.

I didn't know about an instrumental version from Jimi. I HAVE TO hear that. I just looked on Itunes and it's not there :(

I tend to like the SRV version because it's longer and I like the cleaner guitar sound, but I DO miss the lyrics. The original fades out way too soon. It always made me wonder how much more was actually on tape that we don't get to hear.

I'm guessing, but I bet it fades out because they ran out of tape. A problem that plagued performers like Hendrix, Cream, Greatful Dead, and most of the old Jammers. Just not enough tape in the spool. And better tape was shorter, because it was thicker, so a lot of the old Jam Band recordings had lesser quality audio, so they could work in longer sessions.

The original. I don't really like SRV's - its a bit long and misses out a lot by being purely instrumental.

I think being instrumental adds another dimension to it. I think that makes it better--and Jimi's instrumental version is better than the vocal version as well.

Have you even heard the live version on Hendrix in the West .... ????There isn't a wasted note, his singing is very good, full of emotion and he
shows restraint and impeccable taste by not playing 10,000 notes a second - what a great writer and electric guitarist !!!!!!

So, by your logic, The Leaves did a better "Hey Joe" than Jimi?
