OK, heres what I need help with. I have a new EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress and I would like to install a LED for the on/off of the effect.(Don't know why they don't have one already) Has anyone done this? What do I need seeing its a 24 volt power. Any help would be great. Thanks, Dave

Hi newwt

Ive built a couple of BYOC pedals and the general method of LED switching seems to be as follows.

Using the 24v ( or more commonly 9v) supply you wire the LED in series with a resistor through a spare contact on the footswitch then through to ground as far as i can tell.

The idea is the spare contact is made when the pedal is ON. The value of the resistor for 9v is generally 4700 ohms. For 24v its probably at least 10 k and maybe a bit more. Test with supply and LED before wiring in.
If you go to the BYOC website and have a look at the pdf file instructions for any of their pedals it will show you what im getting at.

Hope this helps a bit.

.... Al

Hi newwt: there's an idea amongst tone ultra-purists that an LED circuit in an FX box interferes with the signal to some small extent and compromises the sound. That's way above my paygrade and I leave it to the electronics gurus to discuss whether it's real or not. I also don't know if it is the thinking behind the Mistress not having an LED - but it might be.

If you're going to do the mod it would be fascinating to take the time to listen to the pedal with and without the LED circuit attached to see if you can hear any difference. I'd be most curious about it if you felt like reporting back.

I'm guessing this falls into the same arena as the true-bypass debate. But heck, it's something to chat about on an internet forum, so why not? :D

Cheers - C
