Some of you may remember me trying to get a zappa tribute band off the ground a while ago , but due to not being able to find enough like minded people i had to give up on that one .
Today i went to the rehersal rooms i like to use to meet up with a drummer and a bassist with the intentions of getting an RG tribute band going and what a time we had , it all went swimmingly , for a first session it sounded excellent , (apart from my singing, the singer i had lined up has gone AWOL ) some of the numbers were , Bad penny , Laundromat, Messing with the kid , Moonchild , In your town , Bullfrog blues , Big guns . Both the tele and mij 57 reis strat got a great workout and sounded excellent through the peavey mace , i don't need a vox ac30 now , i'm more than happy with this amps sound 8) i'll keep you all up to date as things pan out ,i'm hoping to have a singer in place for the next rehersal in 2 weeks time , cheers
Alan

i think it's great that you are playing Rory's music. he is one of my all time favorites. i want to start a band and play his music too but in america it's hard if not nearly impossible to find like minded people. it's tough to start a blues band because it seems everyone wants "cookie monster" vocals and overpowering distortion to hide behind. don't even get me started on country music or as it is known now as "def lepard with a fiddle". i guess it's all what you are into. keep up the good work.Rory is still the man.

Nice.

Re: Rory, I read somewhere about a new version of the "Irish Tour '74" movie coming out. I guess I'll to use my friend, Google, to find out details. While the content was great, the original often had video that wasn't matched up with the audio (I think it was filmed with a single camera and they edited it up to make it seem like a multi-camera; ouch).

Great Alan, you should do "Continental Op" always one of my faves from Rory.

On the western plains as well, tho you don't need the band for that one!

congrats and good luck...always loved Rory's music and finding a tribute band doing it is nigh near impossible in my neck of the woods. Its all either Zepplin Stones or Beatles and the occasional Tragically Hip tribute band.

hi guys, i've been a fan of rory's music since i was first introduced to it by a workmate when i just started working at the age of 16 , i saw him live in 88 and have loved listening to and playing his music ever since , every now and then i used to manage to wangle a rory song into bands i was playing with  and i've been the guy who has turned more than a few people onto his music , the two other guys are as enthusiastic as i am about this project so i have high hopes 8) if we can't get a singer i'll just have to practice my $@! of to fill the roll and i also forgot how good it is to play in a trio , no sound battles with another guitarist , it sounded brilliant as only a trio can sound  .
and Gary don't worry mate we plan on having a very extensive set list including some taste classics and a few acoustic numbers as well as songs from rory's solo career , i'm a happy chappy playing his songs ,i promised myself a while ago the next bands i would be in would be playing sounds i love and want to play ,so far so good  cheers
Alan
