They give gigs to local teenagers. I'm honestly considering it. A few of my friends have played there and said it's a very welcoming atmosphere. They let people of all skill levels play there, and even better you get free dinner out of it. The only thing is, I'm mainly good at loud an obnoxious play. I do have some cleans, but I'm not quite as comfortable with it. Would any of you ever eat while I play, or do I make you lose your appetite?

I don't think anyone would want to sit and eat food that they paid for whilst listening to your music, not at your current skill level anyway. In a few years time, who knows?
You asked the forum and I gave my opinion. I'm not going to blow smoke up your $@!.
Try busking first. That should give you an indication.

This is actually a very fine suggestion. Busking ain't near as easy as you might think, and it's a good, consequence-free training ground. A lot of top players have started out this way - highly respectable.

BTW, Buxom: I often eat while you're playing. A little matter of 5000 miles is neither here nor there...

Cheers - C

+2 on the busking idea...

By the way, it not your playing that would be a problem in the restaurant; it's more likely the style/genre that you play. There's a reason most restaurants don't have punk or hardcore or whatever piped into the restaurant...it's not exactly "dinner music..."

If they have a punk/rock/hardcore/alternative/whatever night (catering to the customer that would eat while listening to those styles, it might be cool to work up a coiple of songs with another person (a vocalist especially). Something we guitarists forget is the fact that the general population isn't into instrumentals or long solos, even.

If you go busking, that is one of the most thrilling, positive and scary experiences you can have. Most people will be extremely cool to you, because if they don't like it they can move on down the sidewalk. There will be the one-off, "Get lessons!" comment, but I think your skin is thick enough to handle it...

Thanks SA, that girl I'm into... She's a singer. I'd love to do some kinda collaboration with her.

Also, cops in my area don't take kindly to that. They consider it panhandling. It's more widely accepted and loved in DC.
