I came to this forum looking for something musically interesting. I was delighted to find that the folks here had much more to offer than interesting conversation. The overall wealth of knowledge and information was overwhelming, and still is. I would challenge anyone to come up with a legitimate question about Guitars, Amps & other related gear that cant be answered by any one of several people. I wont bother to mention any names we all know who they are. Then we have the great conversationalists, and we cant overlook the jokers & story tellers. I guess that's where I fit in. All of my stories are based on true life recollections of places and things from my past. some funny & some not so funny, & all meant in good spirit. Once in a while along comes an unsavory mean spirited person that just cant get along with anyone, such as we have in our company as I speak. In the past these distractions disappear in there own time. but I don't have a good feeling about this one. Several of what I'll refer to as the good guys have been personally attacked by this person. I personally feel insulted & wrongly accused. Some have out of anger and frustration, sadly elected to leave. It will be our loss If they do. I guess I've said enough. Well maybe one more thing. I'm really angry about this one. :x

You know you'd think by now that some one would have gotten the bright idea of adding an IGNORE button as an option....it used to be a pretty common tool on forums and BBB's (oops showing my age lol) a few years back. Then we wouldn't have to see relatively decent contributors either leave or get into flame wars or God forbid start foaming at the mouth (poke-poke nudge-nudge   )

Honestly I think you guys are spoilt on this forum with how polite and tame it is, this guy winding everyone up is nothing compared to the total asswipes you see on most other forums.

The biggest problem here is lack of moderators, most other sites you'll have a team and someone is on almost all the time to !@$ all the crap in the bud and clean the forum up before the threads have time to descend into a shitslinging event.

Of the three forums I frequent (other two are FDP & TGP) I see far more rudeness and personal attacks on this forum and the majority are committed by the long term members than any new members.

I think its probably due to me being part of skateboard and snowboard communities which attract lots of younger users with keyboard warrior syndrome.

You do often find though long term members have a habit of making life tough for newbies not towing the line. That's not an attack on anyone here btw if they're wondering.

Hi Danny: don't worry, man, over the years so many of these phases have come and gone. It really ain't so terrible. Read the good posts, ignore the uninteresting ones - that's all it takes.

You in particular start lots of nice threads full of good, friendly spirit. Bit more of those kindsa threads around the top of the page and we're all happy bunnies again.

Chin up - C

For the folks defending the problem child and complaing of the "attacks" on him,I'll remind you all...this person has been given every chance to do right, and by most of the old time regulars here.....but this time he has gone too far ...he has caused insult and hurt feelings to people who have done him no wrong...I remind you all to go back and read the troubles he has caused guitslinger.
This time he has crossed the line,I will not ignore him,I will not respond to him though, but I will not defend his actions,I think he is much smarter than most believe he is and is just a trouble maker wherever he goes.
If you think I'm being an A.H. about this...then so be it!
as usual,YMMV

im a member of a classic car forum, which as you can imagine is mostly the 'wiser' generation, but even that is less mature than this forum. i'll admit, ive not been here long, and initially only came to get some info about my guitars, and seem to have stumbled upon some weird s**t which may be enough to put other new users off.

but compared to the car forum, this is very civilised

There is,
just click on the offenders profile, then click on the "add foe" link this will put them on your block list.
I've added every iteration of this %$^& persons many ids as well as anyone who had bright ideas to try to defend his actions.

It seems the latest Defender of Inanity (Rebel Stole) is the rebranded "Danny Dook" who earlier attacked several people by name.

Judging by his writing style, self-serving righteous indignation, unoriginal bad puns/take offs of other forum members' user names and the fact that he changed his name once and has already disappeared, I strongly suspect we may be dealing with the resurrected Earnest/Gossamer/Skirt So Plain (another moronic troll of the highest order).

A good test would be to compare Nathan's playing to Billy Corgan or J Mascis...he'd scream so loud satellites would pick up the sound.

Don't sweat it--he is paranoid and bound to get scared of his IT department tracking his goofing off at work and he'll delete his posts.

I'm glad Martian agreed to stay, and hope that GuitSlinger and Riley come back. I hope that NikiNinja stays around this time (nice to have him back).

I considered dropping out, but then I remembered the guys and girls who were my sole contact to the "guitar world" during my forced weekly commutes away from my home and family (which helped with my loneliness) and decided to hang around and see it it gets better. If it doesn't get better, I won't make an announcement, I'll just leave.

I appreciate most of you--I won't name names because I might leave somebody off--and hope that Brad has kicked off Nathan and will immediately do so again if he ever tries to return.

This is all I will say about this; any further comments from Nathan, his defenders or detractors will have to speak for themselves.

Yes, but unfortunately it is also mostly putting off those that some have called the "old guard" very respected musicians and tech's that are getting fed up with all the latest BS here and are packing up their knowledge and leaving.

Might be time for those of the "old guard" to jump to a closed music forum where the discussions stay to music and equipment.
And leave these open forums to the next genatation of random tweeters.

NB: the gibson & peavey open forums are in much the same state.
I suspect most open forums have gone straight to hades.

That is one of the biggest problems it is much to easy to generate a new free userid and just keep on spweing the same old drivel.

Gday DD,
If your referring to a certain self-righteous poster who made the outrageous claims about some long serving members and then deleted them, then yes, it made me angry too. I actually found it quite disturbing. I think that one's gone.
Others seem to think it was the annoying youngster that upset you. He's more like a chronic recurring rash which we must all learn to live with.
Take it easy man.
Goodonya ....Mark.

edit= I just read Mr Armadillos post, yep, the Texan is wise.
