My first electric was a J. Reynolds, at the time it was perfect for me. But, now I can't even play it, the tuners refuse to stay in tune, and i even had to tape both humbuckers in. I would suggest just getting a Squier for your first guitar instead, that way you could actually play it after you move on.

edit: The J. Reynolds is cheaper, but a Squier or Fender is a thousand times better.

One can rarely go truly wrong with the stadbys, a Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Guild...

...step away and it's likely you have to be more discerning to make sure you get agood instrument.
