I am making this post to hopefully help. I have noticed a trend that some people seem to be caught up in. I encourage you all that have been involved to take a deep breath and think about what is happening to you. A young member of the forum has upset several others and it seems to be a real problem here. I understand that many of you are upset and feel the need to retaliate, but stop for a moment and consider what effect this is having on you. You are being pulled down into a pit of negativity that nothing good will come of. Every time you insult, make fun of, or whatever you are hurting yourself and the whole forum. Many of you have allowed a child to control your composer and compromise your maturity. Don't let this happen to you, rise above it. Don't let someone else turn you into something you're not. I have made this mistake in my life and I regret it terribly. I did not want to say all this, I prefer to stay out of it, but if this helps one person understand and not make the same mistake then it was worth posting.

well said Matt. I miss Niki and Twelvebar and trwells and, well everyone that has been MIA. Hope they all become regular posters again.

Freaked me out when I saw this. Thought I had gone back in time.

Long ago in the olden times, there was a troll of the highest order.

you guys should take up bass. When someone loses it we all just tell them they're a dink . That usually fixes all that negativity stuff. Then we go back to knocking guitar players . There aren't many 13 year olds playing bass. HA!

Don't get me wrong I like guitar players- EYE R 1 .... there that should be easy for you to read. HA!! I love it !!!! :D :D :D

Okay tell me how messed up bass players are !!!! Be positive !!!

How many bass players does it take to change a light bulb?
None. The keyboard player does it with his left hand.

every forum has a group of regulars who know each other. It's just like a bar. Why don't you try the bar across the street?

I stopped posting here about a year ago because I asked a question about the age of a strat and got pounced on by some incredibly rude folks. Thought it wasn't worth it even though I have some nice Fender guitars and did get some good info from here. Now I see I wasn't the only one that drew the same conclusion.
Glad to see someone addressing it.
Cheers
Phil

A forum by it's nature is a means for some people to unwind from whatever else is going on in their lives, and that's what they do sometimes. Often it gets negative. Others just like to get a little rise out of people, meant in good fun, but it isn't taken that way by some others. If we act as adults, we just take it for what it is and go on. However, rude behavior is just that, rude. We all need to give our posts a second thought before we hit the submit button. The people on this forum are the best I have encountered on any of the various forums I enjoy. I'm hopeful it will stay that way, and it will if we just ignore, instead of getting into a pissing match, with some of the posts. I don't like to see political or sports related topics on this forum either. They invite arguments best suited elsewhere. We're here because we enjoy music, leave everything else behind you when you enter.

I am firmly in this camp. I have to always remind myself though that what may sound like a light-hearted and flippant comment in my head may be misinterpreted by people unaccustomed to my sense of humour.

A funny remark when written down and taken out of context may be interpreted as a callous insult.

Dang. I had written a long winded reply when I realized I was getting negative. I stand by Brads words in my sig. Let us do our best to let go of the urge to fight negativity with negativity and get this forum back to being the great community that it is.

Speaking of members who've left I often wonder why Tim Drake stopped coming round. There were times when I thought he must have changed his handle but I just looked up his profile and it hasn't changed. He just doesn't come here anymore. I scanned some of his later posts and I didn't see anything to suggest he was frustrated with flamers or anything.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yes Matt, Tim hasn't been around, Nevin and many others too. They are missed by those who have conversed with them on this Forum, so we appreciate their contributions to the Fender Lounge Forum.

I guess I'll be the first to admit that yea...I can take things a bit out of perspective myself at times. I'm also certainly a bit long winded (but ONLY a little...really...about that 60000 character limit...) and I -enjoy- a good debate...and not everyone can...ermmm..."appreciate" such things. I'm a big believer in "if you can't say what you mean, you can NEVER mean what you say" as well as "if someone does a stupid thing, you should tell them it's stupid...they may continue to do it, but at least the truth is where it needs to be". I also tend to stand firm when I believe I'm right about something...also something that a lot of folks just don't really care for. I'm also usually the "odd man out"...most of the time I think sooooo far outside the box that most days I don't even remember where the box is (either that or my "box" is simply round and tends to roll away a lot)! LOL!!! And for what it's worth...yes...I really am this annoying in real life too. In my own defense however I will say I really don't view such things as being negative...just honest. More over, the good folks on these forums should -never- take my words, opinions or comments as being intentionally rude or personal. Yes, I am opinionated, yes I am brutally honest and yes, I am blunt...blunt as a freakin' bowling ball...but if I'm being deliberately rude with someone, TRUST ME...there will be no question of it what so ever :-)

That said...

I dunno...maybe it's just that I've been on the internet for too long but it simply seems to be the nature of online communication. Specific personality conflicts aside (that even happens in "real life"...as my brother says, "you just can't fix stupid"), perhaps it's just the anonymity...and maybe it's just that folks simply can't see that my fists really are NOT balled up when I'm typing (well....not usually at least). In any case, it's not just here...if anything, I've seen CONSIDERABLY worse on other internet forums. I honestly have to give credit to the admin's here for keeping things as civil as they do. Again though it just seems to go with the turf. Yes, we should all try to be better than we are...but that's just seldom the case, particularly when discussing matters that we are passionate about (such as guitars) on something like a public forum.

Anyways, just my own thoughts since I know I've stirred up my own share of hornet's nests around here.

Peace,
Jim

Sad as it is, noone can stay at the Forum forever. We can take peace in knowing that they are rocking somewhere in the world to this day. :D
