I have one of his earliest albums "It's Not Killing Me" and it's absolutely brilliant a real masterpiece, the guy was one of the true guitar greats of all time,as evidenced by those great players of today who still list him as a major influence.

Bloomfield is my favorite guitarest. I'll be watching this thread. I wish I had something to add. The only tid bit I have is that his long lost Les Paul, may not be so lost and may turn up sometime in the future. Someone has it, but is not admitting it for fear of losing it.

I had the great fortune of seeing Mike play live twice. The first time was with the Butterfield Blues Band when they opened for Wilson Pickett in my hometown. It was an old hockey arena called the Forum and I remember it quite well as it was my 14th birthday and my girlfriend at the time bought me the ticket. Needless to say I was blown away, both acts were dynamite but Mike was on fire that night and did a 3 minute solo during "I Got My Mojo Workin' " that had the place on their feet. The other time I caught him was in the Bay Area early 70's at a place called The Boarding House, and I have to say he had moments of brilliance but I left feeling a little disappointed because he was obviously on the nod and was forgeting lyrics and having trouble with his timing. Really sad seeing as he was and still is one of my all-time favorite guitarists.

Great thread, Mike. Michael Bloomfield was my first guitar hero, too. I grew up in northern Illinois and visited Chicago often. I got to see Mike with The Paul Butterfield Blues Band once and a second time with The Electric Flag in San Francisco. He was a great guitarist.

Here's a link to one of my favorites... a short but sweet YouTube clip of Mike playing with the Electric Flag at the Monterey Pop Festival.

Hi Claude and John -

Thanks for posting. That clip that I posted is from a bootleg and
that's a friend of mine from the U.K. speaking at the intro where
he was on a radio show promoting a charity event.

Michael Bloomfield was one of those players that always played
from the heart!

Mike Bloomfield, another under rated guitar great and seldom mentioned. Super Session has always been one of my favorite albums. Rest in peace Mike.

I still have the vinyl copy of 'If You Love These Blues..' that was a mail-order record from Guitar Player back in the '70s. The album came with a little booklet that described the songs and what guitars/amps that Bloomfield used to make the recording.

Nice, T!

I knew there might be more that knew the greatness of Bloomfield. Come join
the Yahoo group - lots of stuff all about the man - same p/w as BR groups.
