Thanks Triskele! No need to salute, though. Pat on the back is much more my style! :D

Excellent work Sir!

Love the ingenuity you used to figure out the problem! And now it must sound wonderful as well! What about the neck pup?

Thanks guys, I appreciate your kind comments! :)

As for the Neck PU: That one is fine, that's what puzzles me. I haven't opened it, but I've been able to lower and highten it freely. No problems whatsoever.

There you go. Who knows what was going on in the factory that day. I really don't mind this minor thing at all, it was just a very very slight inconvenience easily righted. I wish the chaps in China all the best and commend them for making such a cool-sounding guitar.

BTW the finish is near impeccable.

Cheers guys!

Hi Nutter: interesting. At first I assumed you were running up against a flashing from a moulding process. But this looks very much as if two thinner pickup rings have been stuck together to make a thicker one - which is an odd way to go. A glimpse behind-the-scenes of the production process. I suppose they didn't invisage manufacturing enough of that model to justify ordering a special sized ring from the injection moulding supplier.

Anyway. Problem identified; problem solved. Way to go! :D

Update. He did keep them and says he liked them a lot. However, he hasn't got them anymore... But I know who has:

8) I haven't strapped 'em into the Les Paul yet, so I can't give my own views.

Trev Wilkinson gave us a long spiel about how he hung out with Seth Lover, picked his brains about his original humbucker design and even bought up the old, derelict winding machine they were made on. He claims this model is as identical as it is possible to get to the original PAFs.

But then that's what every maker claims about their PAF clone, so we'll have to see. Must get my soldering iron out...

Just to finish off this hijack in style, here's Nick's photo of his Vintage LP on the pyre. If you are going to relic a guitar, this is the way the grown-ups do it:

Nutter: very nice bit of work. I'm curious what the clear plastic like material is. Is it lexan, and was it difficult to work with? I've worked with it in the past and found it easy to split or crack. but on the other side of the coin its virtually indestructible. I once saw a fireman attempting a Simulated emergency entrance through a rail car lexan outer window. He was using a fire ax, when the ax struck the window it sprang back like it was launched from a sling shot, and darn near hit the unsuspecting fireman in the head. What ever the material I love that pick guard. Beautiful guitar. 8)

That is a sad sad sight indeed.

Thanks for your kind remarks Ceri. I know you would have done a much betterer and greaterer job on it! My clumsy attempts must look like a child finding out that crayons are actually for paper, and not for sticking inside the ear.

As to your deductions about the manufacturing process of that mounting ring: It is highly likely that you are right. I had another look at the rings, and the outside surface is slightly rippled as if coming off a mould, plus it appears to be layered as you said. However I can't see any clear indications that it was made of two seperate layers glued together - the seam looks much too well made for glue. Perhaps they heated them up and then squashed them together? Who knows!

And Danny: Cheers for your kind remarks! I'm unable to tell you which kind of plastic it is, and sadly I have got rid of all shavings from yesterday, so I couldn't even get a lighter and tell you whether they are thermoplastic or not. I think they might be, but I'm not sure. If they are that would be fantastic, because it would mean I could heat them up a bit and - with a tiiiny bit of pressure - mould them exactly to the curvature of the body. There's a tiny bit of a gap at the far ends of the PU at the moment. If I were extremely picky I would complain. ;-)

As for your lucky fireman... here's another one: The Fireman. I wonder if you know that guy.... 8)

Mr cullenszoo: Thanks! Please do! We love those threads and piccies! Should you need more gear build thread fodder, check out your humble servant's Build Thread Listing for some serious, and I mean proper serious build thread madness. Enjoy!

Cheers all. It's been emotional.

Nutter my old mate, that hollowbody of yours, which I've played enough to know I like. Is a world apart from the Lemon Drop RIP (rot in pieces).
I was considering offering dough for the guitar. However the hollowbody guitars just are not for me.

As for the Lemondrop.
Here is how it all ended.

I'm convinced that guitar must have been a very early model. Recognize that species of wood? It's the lesser spotted MFI. (Further evidence of the guitar being a 2nd or early model.) It was so wrong, it couldn't be right. A world apart from your guitar, Vintage guitars I've recently tried (the Slash is gorge') and what I hear from others about their Vintages.

Back to the setlist and beer. Nice work mate, see ya soon.

Hi Andy! Sir Bighair! Welcome to the show mate - good to see you! haven't seen you on here for a long while! How are things up north? ;-)

Thanks for your flattering remarks - I hardly deserve them. :)

Hi' Five, Randel! How is your belly? is it beeing filled with delicious cat food and scratched often enough by Don Curlyone? That pic certainly looks epic! Cheers! :)

As for the inquiry about a picture of my tool: After a long series of frowning and laughing and sighing I have decided to post a picture of it - live, in the flesh, on the internet (which is in the world wide web), and in Technicolor.

The thing is, this tool is from the planet Proxxon and kinda always on the move - I tried my best but it was already on its way to another desperately clumsy handyman like me, and all I could get was one last shot of it before it teleported into hyperspace. That shot however turned out to be pretty heftily EPIC!

Nice job Nutter. But there seems to be a pic missing. The pic of the "job well done" beer. :D
