It's actually very easy. Do it once and don't change string gauges.

If your locking nut is working properly, it's not that bad, IMO.

To restring? Nah... not particularly. They keep their tuning incredibly well too. Setting up the intonation (especially if you want to change string gauges) or putting it into alternate tunings is a nightmare though.

I love Floyd Roses though, but then I'm a metalhead, it's worth the hassle for the cool noises you can produce with them.

(If you want a whammy bar that's a real pain in the $@! to restring, go for a Bigsby)

It's all relative. If you've done it enough, it becomes routine like so many other tasks. If you only do it once in a while, well, to some it can truly be a horror.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Once the guitar is intonated it is easy to string from that point on as long as you do not change the string gauge. It is no harder to restring than any other guitar. Make sure to stretch those strings before locking the nut.

I have owned many guitars with Floyd Rose tremolos and currently own 2 in my collection now. I love them for extreme climbs and dives.

Compared to a Floyd and all the other new fangled whammys a Bigsby is a cakewalk.I'd rather restring 5 Bigsbys than do 1 string on a Floyd, but then again I've used Bigsbys for almost 40 years.

Stringing them is not a big deal. Cut the ball ends off or feed the strings through the tuners. What can be a pain is to set up the bridge. But even that is not that big of a deal. Once is set, strings are stretched and locked in, you won't have to tune the thing again.

I personally find that when I try and sort out a Floyd Rose, my fingers turn into raw white puddings, my brain goes to mush and my patience generally disappears out the window (along with the bloody guitar on a couple of occasions.......)

I have an old crappy Washburn that needed some work on the Floyd Rose and has sat in a cupboard now, with the bridge and spares still in their bags and boxes, for almost two years............I would actually rather string a Chapman Stick.....................
