I already know Teisco, but what are some others that would be relatively easy to find, on eBay or otherwise? Things that would be easy to find, cheap, and actually play well. The ones with those really weird, great sounding pickups, etc.. The Teiscos have been getting a bit pricey lately, but I'm still interested in something like that, so I'm wondering what some alternatives would be.

EDIT: To be more specific, ones that make those 3+ pickup monsters and such... They're just friggin sweet.

Guyatone, Kent, Harmony, Silvertone, Hagstrom, Sekova, Univox, Greco, Aria, Kawai.

Not all are Japanese, but obscure and relatively cheap/common.

You can not forget Tokai, there guitars are better then Fenders of the time. Stevie Ray played a Tokai Silver Star quite a bit and you have the Tokai Springy Sounds and Breezy Sounds.
Now days Tokia make MIJ Fenders but back then it was Fujigen Gakki. Even then a large number of the necks come from Atlantsia.

Some of the very early Ibanez guitars weren't up to the standards that they were from the mid-70s onward and you may find some of them at a lower price than the aforementioned ones. Some of the Ibanez Gibson knock-offs were way better than the Gibsons of the day.Around 1975 I could've gotten an Ibanez copy of the Gibson 1275(the double neck that Jimi Page is identified with) for about $300-$350 and it was a real screamer but I wouldn't buy it at the time because I was only 21 and still had a bad case of brand snobbery and wouldn't be caught dead playing a Japanese guiitar-even if it sounded way way better than its Gibson counterpart.

There are great Japanese brands such as Burny,Edwards etc. that in quite a few cases cost more than Fender's own Custom Shop Strats etc. and are in the $5-7000 bracket. Have a look here and see somme of the beauties that they can make. http://www.guitarsjapan.com/

Teiscos are getting expensive? Maybe my little Teisco/Silvertone is worth more than I thought.

Fujigen Gakki makes excellent guitars. I assume both my '80s MIJ Tele and my '80s MIJ Squier Strat were made by Fujigen. They're two of the finest guitars I've ever played.

In 30-35 years, will we be looking at Chinese guitars the same way that we look at Japanese guitars today? My Marauder says that we will. The CV series and the rest of the MP series will be sought after guitars as well. The decade of the 2000s will be known as the first years of truly great Chinese guitars. And they're going to keep getting better. I have problems with the Chinese government, but I have no problem with their guitars.

They seem to be getting to around $600-$900 for nicer models. Unfortunately, those are the ones I want. :?

If you ever get one of those old beauties, be sure to get an EV-2T. Coolest little guitar out there.

Trust me, I'm adding at least a Teisco EV-2T, a vintage Music Master, a vintage hardtail Stratocaster, and keeping my seriously modded Tele after I finish it. Basically, that's what I want my collection to be before I'm 20.

I'll probably get one eventually, not before a Music Master though.

If you guys want a 4 pup Teisco you'd better start saving really big because to get one of them in real good condition you'd have to be prepared to spend over $500 and a lot more if it's a rare colour.
