who says you can't do it?

contact a local school to find out if they have a program, and give a contribution

there also plenty of places that give food and help to the needy. volunteer time, or make a donation

it's easy to help...

Why cant we just donate guitars to poor kids? then they will be happy musically, and maybe some money too for food, amplifiers and loads of other things

If you feel strongly about it you should start by giving your strat to a needy kid. That would be an awesome gesture .They will also need your amp Nathan. It wouldn't hurt to volunteer time at the soup kitchen or local shelter and help the poor.I feed the poor once a month at a local womens shelter. My wife and I make food for approximately 40 or so single mothers and children who are in need.We buy the food ,make a nice rounded meal and go serve it to them. There are many things one can do to help others in need.Try it...I think you will find it most gratifying. These women are so stoked to have a hot meal for them and their children.
I also find that giving harmonicas is a pretty cool thing.Kids love them and you can buy a cheapo harmonica for a couple bucks. It can get pretty spendy quick like giving out guitars.Plus kids can throw a harp in there pocket and away they go.Try it.....you'll like it

Donate one of your 3 guitars, then.

There are better places to donate guitars like wounded warriors and others. Help the poor like scarleg or help at a food bank their are many ways. They need your help.

while i think helping the needy is important, i think that as far as guitars are concerned, finding a school where there might be a need is better than just handing it to someone who might not be interested in playing.

there is a school for the arts in my area. i have 2 grandchildren who are small. should they decide not to play, my equipment will be donated to the school.

as far as feeding or clothing those who need it, search out a place to help. you can donate time, money, food, clothing-and have a way to get it to the people who need it.

helping out others feels darn good

One problem with giving poor kids guitars is that their parents are liable to pawn the guitars. I know of one child whose parents pawn every pawnable present she's given. I prefer to help the poor eat. Other people can't pawn an eaten meal.

G'day Nathan, I found this article about a guy who collects used instruments to be donated to remote outback indigenous communities.

I have given guitars to some kids in my family (cousins, friends of the family) several times. Some families can't afford $400 worth of gear on a single child when they have 2 other kids, or won't spend the money from fear the child will lose interest and the guitar will sit in the closet. I would give a guitar to someone like this before I would donate them to a school. :)

Why not? My taxes pays for their housing, food, and medical care. I may as well buy them guitars while I'm at it.

No butt nugget, your taxes paid for your (if you have one), and your children's education, your streets and parks, and the public services that create a society and a functioning country.

I am happy to see this post made it to the lime light. I am not in a position to donate now . . . . but now the seeds have been planted in the back of my head to make this kind gesture when the time is right. Music is for everyone. It keeps our world happy too!
