There's no market for that s*** in America, whereas Japan is full of collectors who will buy ljust about anything they can get their hands on in hopes that it'll one day be valuable/rare/collectible. A lot of them don't even play, they just buy enough guitars to fill warehouses.

I know right. It makes me sick all of those sweet guitars going to waste!

Eh, most of the mustangs are EXACTLY the same in function with only the finish being different, and even then, the mustang is a VERY niche guitar with a VERY specific sound. Once you have one you're pretty much set with mustangs, there's no real reason for multiples.

Try this place, they're based in Japan but they sell MIJ Fenders plus other brands and they ship to the U.S. http://www.guitarsjapan.com/ you'll definitely find what you're loking for there,my buddy has bought a few guitars from them and they only sell 9.0 and up condition guitars plus some brand new models.

I'm bringing my lady. She wanted to go to a Children of Bodom concert. We had no ride though. Luckily, we can take the metro.

Don't forget about other brands...Bacchus Vintage and Classic Series are great guitars as well as older Tokai's.

I have purchased used Japanese market guitars from a Tokyo music shop called Ishibashi. It was about the same as buying from Sam Ash or Musician's Friend (give 'em a Visa number and they ship it to you).

They cannot sell new Fender Japan models to Americans, but they can sell used ones. So check out Ishibashi's "U-Box" (web page with their used stuff). There's some really cool stuff there!

Really? wow! I wasn't aware that Fender Japan has restrictions on shipping out new MIJs? I'm about to place an order for an MG69 MH VSP OCR - which the rep from Ishibashi priced at 100k yen for me and I'm pretty sure it's a new one for that price.

I'll be placing the order through this page:

http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/eng/howtoorder.html

Is it possible that this is because I live in Canada?

Not all Mustangs sound alike-they all may have a similar overall tone but each has its own unique sound footprint that makes it different from the others.I have 5 Strats and it is no problem to identify each one as a Strat when you hear it they all have markedly differennt signature tones. It's for this reason that some of our esteemed forum members have amassed dozens of Strats alone as well as multiples of other models.

Yes, it might be the Canada thing. It has been "on" and "off" over the years, and I'll admit I might be wrong about them not currently being able to ship new Fender Japan to the USA (Fender didn't want them to). They used to say on their website -- I haven't checked it lately.

I'm more interested in the USED Japanese stuff anyway (and mostly brands other than Fender).

Fairly recently, I won a Korean Hamer Tele-copy on ebay, and literally 4-days later ran across someone selling a Japanese Tele-copy on Craigslist called a "Photogenic" for $60.

They were both actually very good guitars as they were, but I decided to swap parts to my own liking.

Anyway, the Photogenic had this body on it. Not a scratch on it.

Double bound metallic red. Very well crafted. However, I wasn't too fond of the Maple neck on the Hamer, so I put it on the Photogenic, and put the Photogenic neck on the Hamer.

The guy who sold me the photogenic was in the military and bought it in Japan. He said it cost him $400 over there. I've had people ask me if I was gonna sand off the "Photogenic" label on it. But I'm not doing that. I like it. It does seem very Japanese to me that someone would think it's a cool name for a guitar, and I've never run across anyone else who has a Photogenic guitar. The Tele style seems to be rare for that brand as well.

I played the Hamer with the Photogenic neck guitar last night, and it was awesome!! I put Fender Hot Alnico 3 pickups in it and installed new pots, one being a no-load tone, and it's just a beautiful sound and feel. I'm becoming a big fan of Telecasters as a result.
