I dropped into our only local pawnshop today and of course there were the usual rows of worn out Jay Turser,Vintage and other low budget Strat copies but there were 2 display cases filled with various effects pedals. In one case, partially obscured I saw a little gem that I'd never thought I'd be lucky enough to come across it was a "lawsuit" Danelectro Cool Cat Transparent Overdrive pedal. These pedals were the very first issues of the Transparent Overdrive and Danelectro was made to take them off the market and have remaing stock destroyed when they were found to be exact knock-offs of the exteremly expensive and exquisite Timmy's Overdrive.Anyway needless to say I scooped it up right away as the salesman said it had just come in which was very likely as anybody who knew pedals would jump at that little jewel too.I got it for only $50 which I was only too happy to pay.

When I went to the counter another gem that happens to be the subject of GAS attacks was hung on the wall,it was a near mint Hagstrom Swede and they only want $350 for it. I am extremely tempted but after just spending $300 for my Tech21 RotoChoir and then $50 for the overdrive I don't know if I can really justify it.I have the bucks to get it but it would further deplete my 360/12 fund.

Good that you got lucky at the pawnshop. I don't bother going into pawnshops around here, as my past experience is they price their used, beat up junk at what you can buy new if you just do a little research.
As to the question of Hagstrom now, or 360/12 soon, that 's a tough one. Not really, carry a picture of that Ric around in your pocket until you get it, and forget about the other temptations.

Nice!

My best recent find was a vintage Ampeg Jet 12 amp.

If you are planning on buying a new Ricky, You will be able find another one.

However, how many times will you find a Hagstrom?

If it's a specific, special, hard-to-find vintage Ricky that's being held back for you, pass on the Hagstrom.

So, I was about as helpful as a football bat...

This is a real dilemna,I am a bona fide Hagstrom Freak and already have 2 little gems from the 60s-a Corvette that cost the princely sum of $750 in 1963 when a Strat cost about half that and a circa '64 Hagstrom II.Both have the beautiful slim neck that allows super fast riffs. The Corvette has a one piece neck-through-body design and an ebony fretboard and with 3 single coils sounds very Strat-like it's a masterpiece and was aimed at the creme de la creme of musicians when it was built. When I saw that lovely black Swede today I thought back to when I was about 20 and the local Hag dealer had a blood red Swede in his window-how I lusted for that baby.
Still I really want that Rick and don't want to delay getting it by much more by getting another guitar,I'm really in a quandry.

BTW re the pedal: Blinkers and his better half came over this evening and I put on my glasses to get a better look at the pedal and when I saw it through my glasses I realized that it wasn't a first issue but a second,I'm heartbroken now but I learned a valuable lesson and that is to put on my glasses the next time I'm checking something out.In the meantime these 2nd issue ones are pretty good anyway but not up to the standards of the first ones.

Go back and offer the guy the cash for the Hagstrom if he knocks off what you paid for the pedal (which you discovered was not what you believed it to be). Or offer him the pedal back plus the $300.

Having seen that Hagstrom you know you won't be able to settle until it's yours. Better to have a guitar you want in your hands today, than the possibility of a guitar you only might get some time in the future. After all, there might be a financial crisis in the future that wpies out all possibility of the 360/12..

But that's just me, I'm an instant gratification kind of guy!

Every once in a while I find gems, but mostly other people's old junk. I love it when people share positive experiences. Good for you. Have fun.

You had to do that didn't you? Now I'm going to have to find a suitable cliff to take a leap and plummet off of.....she's absolutely adorable-just like the little gem I used to see sparkling in the shop window. Thanks for posting.

I found an old acoustic at the local antique shop. I'd buy it... But it needs some work, plus it's about the ugliest guitar I've ever seen. And it's by far not worth the $200 they want.

It's one of these.

Unfortunately I realized that too late TB,that's the last time I go pawn shop hunting without my specs.I tried out the pedal anyway and it is quite good for $50 plus in the battery compartment are 4 sliders that you can further tailor your sound with.
