I think the chances are better of seeing a Fender electronic kit. :?:

Who's Roger, and why did Fender take his drums?

That's a coincidence, the second time in less than a week I've seen Rogers drums mentioned.I bought a local Buy and Sell mag on Saturday and someone was selling a fully restored 60s vintage Rogers snare.I was very tempted to look into it even though I don't have a set of drums-yet. A buddy of mine had a beautiful set of Rogers drums that he bought in the early to mid 70s.I think he bought them mainly because his name was Roger but they were an incredible set of drums and were absolutely on par with Ludwigs and Premiers. If my memory serves me correctly they were the Rogers equivalent of the Ludwig Hollywoods set and he had paid a bundle for them but could well afford them because at the time he was about the only mechanic in town who knew his way around the upscale yet temperamental British luxury cars.He restored a beautiful Jag Mk II before he was 25.

Getting back to Rogers drums yes they should bring them back but only if they can be made in the same fashion as their former glory.

A band I played with in the 70's the drummer played Rogers drums and they were monsters. He was the best sounding drummer I've ever had in a band.

Hi premier72: my thoughts? I think if Rogers were good enough for the Main Man then...:

BTW: any drummers here of a certain vintage who remembers this book? Ah, them's the days:

Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and Louis Bellson were just monsters at a drum kit and as stated by another poster with a fairly simple set.I think that during most of Buddy's career he used a basic 4 piece set cosisting of snare, semi tom, floor tom and bass drum It was only in the latter years did he progress to the 8-10 piece sets like the Ludwig Bluenotes.

Gene Krupa always played his signature five piece set (two floor toms) and so did Buddy Rich. Though I never, ever saw Buddy use the second floor tom except as a towel holder - he sweated like a burst water main.

It is true that late on Buddy sometimes put "novelty" items of kit to the left of his hi-hat; concert toms for example, and for one lamentable year an early Syndrum: yuk! But essentially Buddy's playing was always structured to a four piece outfit, and back when rock drummers were playing insanely vast drumkits he could get more sounds out of his small set up than any of 'em.

Louis Bellson on the other hand played quite big kits from early on. He was one of the early adopters of double bass drums and when Rototoms came along he took to them with alacrity, mounting them all over the place. He experimented with all sorts of other things too, such as splash cymbals upside-down on top of big ones, and I once saw him do a solo with sticks with sleigh bells fixed to them. Here's a picture of the sort of thing he was getting up to when he was young. Fairly weird looking, but if anyone could do interesting stuff with this it would be Louis - a superb player, second only to Buddy:

seeing that roger set reminds me....

i have an uncle who has been playing drums for over 60 years- he is now in his 80's. at a recent wedding he got up and played. i was floored- he can play great, even though he has hardly played in recent years.

i got asking him about his drumset at home, he still has his original, small, basic drum set that he has used over 60 years

i wonder how many guitarists have played only one guitar for that long....

Thanks for setting me straight Ceri,I knew one of the 3 had gotten into the double bass drum sets like the Lud Bluenotes and incorrectly thought that it was Buddy.

I guess that Yamaha USA still has the name and attempted to bring the brand back a couple of years ago but the Yamaha fathers in Japan would not help. Still I think it would be a nice legendary brand for Fender to aquire again.
